BOX OFFICE: GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Likely To Open With Upwards Of $150 Million
The tracking data for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has hit the boards today and it sounds like we can expect to see the James Gunn helmed sequel soar to amazing new heights at the box office...
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 tracking data is here and it sounds like the movie is going to be a huge hit (and that's not exactly a shocker). Apparently, it looks like the sequel could debut in North America with around $150 million, though Deadline says it could go as high as Captain America: Civil War's massive $179.1 million haul depending on how things play out over the next few weeks.
Awareness for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is currently at a massive 88% with definite interest at 63% and first choice at 28%. Chances are it won't come close to Avengers: Age of Ultron's record-breaking $191.2 million, but these numbers do point to it ultimately grossing $1 billion.
Guardians of the Galaxy opened to $94.3 million back in 2014, so this figure is a big win for Marvel Studios and writer/director James Gunn. It's even more amazing that a movie revolving around a group of characters who were once complete unknowns has the potential to do so well and become one of Marvel biggest releases for date. Expect more specific numbers to surface soon.
