GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Director James Gunn Clarifies Nathan Fillion's Deleted Cameo As [SPOILER]

Yesterday, Nathan Fillion's Instagram post of a deleted Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 scene featuring a possible cameo of the Firefly actor as Simon Williams caused quite a stir among Marvel fans. This has prompted director James Gunn to address the matter in a series of Tweets that you can read below:

James Gunn gave a simple "yes" in regards to what a few longtime Marvel Comics readers immediately realized- that Nathan Fillion's Instagram post revealed a double-layered cameo of Fillion playing Avenger/actor Simon Williams who's playing forgotten Marvel barbarian hero, Arkon.

On whether Nathan Fillion's metaphysical presence in Vol. 2 as Simon Williams is confirmation that he's "the" Simon Willaims/Wonder Man from the comics.

Lets face it, Stan Lee isn't getting any younger (which is probably why Marvel recently filmed all of Stan's cameos for the next few Marvel movies at the same time). Wouldn't it be cool if the new Marvel easter egg, was Nathan Fillion as Simon Williams, showing up playing various Marvel heroes that have zero chance of appearing on screen?

What a great character that would be to include in this universe. Not because he's awesome, but because Wonder Man is kind of lame. I think it would be great.
