It Seems Benicio Del Toro Won't Return As 'The Collector' In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Vol. 2
Despite recent rumors to the contrary, it sounds like we won't be seeing Benicio Del Toro reprise the role of Taneleer Tivan, aka The Collector, in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy sequel. Find out what the Sicario actor had to say about it after the jump...
Benicio Del Toro's character, the Collector, didn't really get to do very much in either of his Marvel movie appearances (post credits in Thor: The Dark World, and a slightly bigger part in Guardians of the Galaxy), but it did seem that he was being set up to play a more prominent role in the events of the MCU moving forward. Then, after seeing his performance in Sicario, his GOTG co-star Zoe Saldana appeared to confirm that she'd be working with him again on the sequel - but according to Del Toro himself, that doesn't seem likely.
While doing promotion for Fernando Léon de Aranoa’s A Perfect Day, the highly in-demand actor said the following when asked if he was involved in James Gunn's sequel:
“I don’t think so… they would have told me, I hope. I do hope to play that character again at some point.”
Considering Tivan still has possession of one of the Infinity Stones, there's still a very good chance he will appear in some capacity before Avengers: Infinity War - and despite what Del Toro says here there's always a possibility he'll still pop up in GOTG Vol. 2, but if that happens it'll probably just be another small cameo.
We should find out one way or the other before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters in 2017.
