Hey, it's me, Glider, and I'm not writing about TV shows for once. Click to read my spot-on theory on who Kurt Russell is playing in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

It's 1:12 in the morning, I have slept four hours in the past twenty four and I really have to pee. So listen up, CBM, I'm gonna make this quick.

I usually write articles on Marvel Television--I'm an MCU fanatic, and we get more episodes than we do movies, so you understand. But to quote Aldrich Killian, I had a thought today that will guide me for years to come. It's been generally accepted that Kurt Russell, who's been cast in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, is playing Peter Quill AKA Star-Lord's father. We do not know what character specifically he's playing. Let's look at what we DO know.

  • It's not J'son of Spartax--director James Gunn has confirmed this much.
  • Meredith Quill described Peter's father as "an angel composed out of pure light."
  • The Ravager Yondu described him as a "jackass."
  • Nova Prime says his father is something "much more ancient" than a human. Gamora says this could be why Quill could hold the Power Stone for so long.
There's been all kinds of wild theories thrown out there. Some say it's Adam Warlock, or Starfox, or the Collector. Hogwash. Ladies and gentleman, Star-Lord's dad is Mephistopheles--Marvel's own spin on the classic Devil figure.

Any Christian worth their salt will tell you that the Devil was once, and has the power to appear as, an angel of light. The Devil is ancient, and it's not too much of a stretch to say that he'd be a jackass. The Mephisto of the comics surely fits this description as well, and I can definitely see Kurt Russell in this role.

That's right.

Peter Quill is the Devil's son.

That's my quick and easy theory, CBM. I'm probably wrong. But I figured I'd share my thoughts with you. Let me know what you think!

I figured, based on the being of light and jackass comments, that the father must be Starhawk. His powers come from a Hawk God, so Starhawk might be considered older than the being it inhabits. Kurt Russell, though, seems unlikely to play a character like Starhawk. Maybe the original Nova, like with Michael Douglas being the original Ant-Man? Kurt Russell's only six years younger than Michael Douglas, so it could be likely that Marvel repeats the formula.

Mephisto? Interesting. What is Mephisto doing gallivanting in space and sending Yondu on missions though.

@TheManWithoutFear - If the MCU uses Mephisto, I think they'll likely reserve him for Ghost Rider or other Midnight Sons characters. If they ever ran an Avengers or Defenders style team-up for the group, Mephisto could serve as the Big Bad, like Thanos or Darkseid or Apocalypse.

I'm sticking with Starhawk, not that I don't like the idea of Mephisto, but I'm sticking with Starhawk. Starhawk's own mother, Ayesha/Paragon/Kismet is in this movie. And I think Kurt Russell is playing Magus.

@NovaCorpsFan - Yes! Give us Starhawk!

He would look great on the silver screen!

I still say Mathew Mconaghey for Starfox. And would be perfect for Star Lords dad. Thanos would be his uncle. Messed up family is the name of the game.

I'd be shocked if Starfox was ever in the MCU, except as someone barely recognizable in an extended cameo. There's no way that haircut and costume could make it near the screen.

It'd be funny and awesome if it did, though. Matthew McConaughey would be hilarious.

Isn't Damian Hellstrom and Santana Satan's kids in the comics?

Im thinking it Warlock/The Magus as they need to introduce him for the Infinity War-although Mephisto does play a role in this also... but is probably some no name chump that Gunn has made up.

I cant see them going the whole Devil/Satan thingy in a Marvel movie...will upset the Christian market.$$$
