Yes, Marvel does still intend to use James Gunn's script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3... at least according to his brother.

After Gunn was fired from the project when a series of highly offensive Tweets resurfaced, many wondered if the studio would also throw out the director's script and start afresh or keep his original story. Now, Sean Gunn (Kraglin) has shed some new light on the situation.

“I don’t really know yet what’s going on with Guardians 3,” he revealed in an interview with Tulsa World. “I know that Disney still wants to make the movie. I know that they have every intention of using the script that my brother wrote."

Last we heard, Marvel had put the threequel on hold while the search for a new director gets underway, and while they are expected to return to the project at some point, the decision has clearly led to a lot of uncertainty among the cast and crew.

“Obviously, that was a very unfortunate situation for everybody, most of all him," Sean continued. "But I am also somebody who had been preparing to spend half a year making that movie and now that’s up in the air.”

Despite heavy backlash from fans and even some involved with the film, Disney CEO Bob Iger recently announced that he'd be standing by the final decision of his executives and would not be rehiring Gunn.

They better use the script, even if the new director (Taika Waititi??) changes a few things along the way.

Seems like a cop out by the Mouse. “We need the mans genius just not the man”. But not the first time the mouse did this.

The script regardless needs to have as much heart as the last two. It is a story about a former bunch of losers that do give a damn. So the director thus needs to give a shiet.

That's good to know, however I'd love it if they simply turned it into a Thor & GOTG team film.

@Pantherpool - Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy
It's absolutely the best course of action.

@Nebula - considering volume 2 and infinity war tied up a lot of remaining threads (while setting some up that would otherwise probably have gone untouched) - that's honestly not a bad idea for the name

Combining those two franchises would likely pull of civil war numbers compared to what they did on their own (re: winter soldier like numbers)

They should use it. At this point Taika is a guy you know can get the job done done.

If they go the new director route, I think Nicole Perlman should be advised.

If all else fails, The Russos can do it all haha. They just get every character.
