GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Is Officially Certified Fresh On Rotten Tomatoes!

Heading into Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's opening weekend, James Gunn's long-awaited threequel has been officially "Certified Fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes. Find more details on the score right here...

As is so often the case with social media reactions, early word on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was almost ridiculously positive when the embargo lifted. We'd argue that much of it was justified, but the reviews obviously offered a much better idea of what to really expect from the threequel.

Now, with 225 of those reviews counted on Rotten Tomatoes, James Gunn's MCU farewell has received an 80% score and is officially Certified Fresh!

Thus far, it appears fans loved it even more than critics as the Audience Score currently sits at an impressive 96%. For comparison's sake, Guardians of the Galaxy has 92%/92%, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has 85%/87%, and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special has 93%/80%.

The current Critics Consensus on the review aggregator says, "A galactic group hug that might squeeze a little too tight on the heartstrings, the final Guardians of the Galaxy is a loving last hurrah for the MCU's most ragtag family."

It's still too early to say what sort of weekend the threequel will have at the box office, though all signs point to it being a hit. Despite some hard-hitting moments, we're guessing word of mouth will be very positive among moviegoers over the coming days.

"As heart-wrenching as it is hilarious," we said in our review earlier this week, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is James Gunn’s masterstroke and a showcase for both his filmmaking talent and a cast that makes everything about this movie simply awesome. An absolute triumph."

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now playing in theaters.

This seems like he made a fitting ending to his trilogy.Its only right he took a group of c list comic book characters at best and made them a well known name to the general public. Crap I remember even die hard comic book fans for the most part saying wtf a GOTG movie and saying it would be Marvel's first failure.

@pitbull76 - movie is both beautiful and devastating at its emotional core and really is the perfect sendoff

Throughly enjoyed this. Easily the best Guardians film. The most I’ve liked Gamora was in this movie. This gamora earned the “most dangerous woman in the gaakxy” moniker. Everyone was on their A game. Still not a fan of Drax being a goof but his arc ended nicely. The hallway scene in this… Daredevil would be proud.

High Evolutionary was a great villain. He was just a piece of shit and I love when villains are just bad. Nothing wrong with sympathetic adversaries but there’s strength in a villain who is just evil and that’s it. Iwuji Brought a Shakespearean sliminess to the role and commanded the screen.

Bro could’ve been a great Kang. Has the gravitas for it imo.

@GhostDog - I haven't hated a villain this much in a long while. I usually like villains, but this one I wanted dead. It's honestly refreshing tbh

@Polaris - yes. Pure hatred for this guy.

I hope he didn’t die and we didn’t see him die either thankfully. Worth bringing back for sure.

@GhostDog -

It's my favorite in the series too. It was so damn good. It has so much heart and hits you in the feels. The action is great but the emotional pull is what got me.🥲

Where Gunn leaves everyone is perfect for a new creative to come in and take over. Gunn is a class act. Gonna see this atleast 2 more times🤝

@AmazingFILMporg - 1000% agree

Movie was emotionally devastating, yet simultaneously uplifting and really gut punches the ‘feels’

Gunn really hit on all cylinders with this one

@SauronthePower -

The only thing that bothered me is that star lord didn't wear his helmet once and Adam Warlock was alittle disappointing but where he leaves off is great💪🔥🖖

Honestly I found this movie to be way better than the critics were selling it. One of the most emotional films of the MCU and possibly one of their best.

@MrDandy - agreed

Top 8 for sure, probably Top 5

Darker than Winter Soldier (to my mind) and yet brings the heart and emotion like no other

The heart in this film was beautiful. Superman should be in good hands when it comes to the sincerity and the spirit.

Great movie.

I hope this will be a lesson to marvel that the "old ways" are better.

Too bad, The Marvels will flop after this

Soo... In the elevator scene, how did Peter and Nebula knew about the "magic cliff" again? 🤔

@vectorsigma - it might be a little stretch but if Hawkeye comes back with the stone and explains to everyone how Nat died, Rocket who was with the Avengers could put together how Gamora died easily and with the time that probably passes from Endgame to GOTG it is not a big leap (pun intended) to think he told Nebula or Quill at some point.

@vectorsigma - Rocket. He was part of the Avengers Endgame group and would know what happened on the other missions.

Not gonna say a lot of things yet, need to sit with this one a little bit. But yea, this is BY FAR my favorite comic book movie trilogy (sorry Cap). I always felt like Gunn and Coogler were the best to work under Marvel Studios and this one just solidified it. Also, Saldaña is one of the greatest actors to have ever portrayed a comic book character, she deserves the hype Bassett got for Wakanda Forever in my humble opinion.

@WakandanQueen - hopefully Saldana gets that recognition once more people sit down with this

Also, this is overperforming big time outside the US due to word of mouth, it's even gonna make a bank in China it seems.
