GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Star Dave Bautista On Disney Relationship After Supporting James Gunn

After James Gunn was fired by Disney, Dave Bautista (Drax) didn't shy away from tearing into the studio for their decision, and he's now revealed what his relationship with the studio is currently like...

When Disney made the decision to fire James Gunn, Dave Bautista was the most outspoken cast member and he didn't shy away from tearing into the studio and making it clear that he would only play Drax again if they forced him to. Well, Gunn has since been rehired to take the helm of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and the actor has now weighed in on where things stand with him and Disney.

"I hope it’s good," he said, revealing that he's yet to talk to anyone there. "I never actually talked to anybody from Disney. I only ever talk to people from Marvel. And they were very understanding about the way I felt. I got people who are very understanding of where I stood. A lot of them just weren’t outspoken about it. And I just happened to be very outspoken about the way I felt."

While Marvel Studios is overseen by Disney, it makes sense that Bautista wouldn't have spoken to anyone at the House of Mouse because there would be no real need in a situation like this.

The rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 cast also stood by Gunn and punishing them would be a huge PR disaster for the studio. As for why he defended Gunn, he added: "James is my friend. I love him. He helped change my life and I know he’s a decent person. He was being attacked. And what do you do when your friends are being attacked? You defend them, or you’re not really a friend."

Hard to be mad at the guy who you eventually agree with. Yeah, there may be some people who thought Bautista wasn't being helpful to the process, but it's got to be water under the bridge.

Someone with real values in the industry, unlike the rest of the guardiass like Pratt that was silent like a bitch in that moment, is something I never got to see usually. He has a bug place in my heart.

@FranValle - I guess...?

But like if Pratt or the other didn't agree with Gunn's actions or were just indifferent to him being sacked, is that such a big deal?

Like at the end of the day if you have a strictly business relationship with someone and they get fired for something stupid they did whenever, would you really bother putting your neck on the line.

I think its fine Bautista stood up for him and it's also fine some of the others said mostly nothing. In hollywood they're probably a lot of directors that wouldn't ride for an actor if they got the sack tbh.

I want to have friends as good to me as Batista. Lots of friends, but a good friend like that? That's a rare breed.

A man who follows his convictions and values friends, I hope James Gunn is as good a friend to him as he is to James..

Bautista is as real as they get, hes an all around good dude who sticks up for what is right, even when others are telling him to do otherwise. He is a rare breed nowadays. Mad respect as always to Dave.

Dave Bautista did a film in England last year set entirely in a soccer stadium. It was awesome.

I bet all of the victims of pedophilia wish that Dave would speak up on their behalf as well, like he did for Jimmy "Kiddie Pool" Gunn.

I mean Gunn painted the guy green, gave him 10 lines to remember and made him a film star with absolutely no talent. I guess he owed him some type of loyalty.
