One of the things that bothered me about the Marvel Cinematic Universe was that I felt everything had to crossover. Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Cap, in one movie? Great, awesome, it's my favorite movie of all time.
But there's more to Marvel than the Avengers. Yes, even beyond Spider-Man, X-Men, and the Fantastic Four, there are great characters that don't need to be in the Avengers; they can interact in that world, but they don't need to be Avengers.
Which is why I got really excited when Marvel Studios announced
Guardians of the Galaxy. A whole seperate team that can function on their own. But now it seems a big thing is for them to crossover in
Avengers 3, and it seems by the poll taken earlier today that there are a lot of people that want this to happen. But there are two reasons why I'm against this.
One--not everything has to emerge in the Avengers. I realize this happened in the comics, and I'm sure it'd be cool to see, but I want Marvel to come out with franchises INDEPENDENT of the Avengers franchise.
Gaurdians of the Galaxy and
Dr. Strange are just two that would work out perfectly. Having them connect would work out perfectly in the story, but that doesn't mean they have to all show up and be Avengers. Let them stand on their own.
Two--Not everybody's going to like
Guardians of the Galaxy. For some people, the Avengers is almost too far out there for them to get into it. And
Guardians of the Galaxy? I'm sure it will do well, and I'm sure I personally will like it, but it's not on the level of "mainstream" as Thor and Captain America, and never will be. Aliens all coming together to save the galaxy? Cool, but it's not for everyone, and the Avengers movies need to be more open than this. Imagine watching the trailer for the third
Avengers and seeing them fighting alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy. The general audience are going to be confused. What's up the raccoon fighting beside Iron Man? I mean, even if they're just in the movie and in different scenes, it's still going to be too much to keep up with--and it's unneeded. You can definitely do the story without them, and I believe promotion-wise and even story-wise it is the wrong decision.
