GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY: Dave Bautista Says He's Playing Drax On "Cruise Control" Heading Into VOL. 3

Talking about his return as Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Dave Bautista admits that he's playing the character on "cruise control" at this point and is excited to wrap up the character's story.

Dave Bautista has been doing the rounds to promote Army of the Dead, but his comments regarding his role as Drax in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise continue to take us by surprise.

It's becoming increasingly clear that the wrestler-turned-actor no longer has much interest in playing the character, and he took that a step further during a recent conversation with USA Today.

"Well, I'm looking forward to being back with my friends. I like the camaraderie," he said of the upcoming Vol. 3"I'm in a weird place with Drax because I've played Drax so many times, I'm on cruise control."

"I love the character, but getting in the makeup, it's just a nightmare. I couldn't explain how awful it is. I hate to sound like one of those high-maintenance actors, but it's just traumatizing," Bautista admitted. "Once I'm in it and I'm on set with my friends and making this character come to life and interacting with these characters that I love so much as a fan, it's all fun and joy."

Bautista concluded by again hinting that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be his last MCU movie.

"Throughout the years, maybe because I've gotten older and more sensitive to it, it's become more unbearable, but the one thing I'm just looking forward is closing out this journey of Drax."

Drax's story could quite easily continue beyond the upcoming threequel, but it seems like Bautista wants to move on to other roles. Hopefully, James Gunn has dreamed up a fitting conclusion to the hero's story as we move into what's looking like a new era for the Guardians of the Galaxy in the MCU.

Do you think Drax's story has run its course?

He didn't say that when he was a nobody in acting and desperately wanted the role.

''maybe because I've gotten older and more sensitive to it''

Anyway, I liked his version of Drax. But I do hope they give him more to do in the next one, especially since I doubt we'll see him again

Considering he is saying he wants to play Bane, bet he is just tired of the role and might end up just phoning it in for this one.

Like really if he cant maintain the physic for Drax, no way he could do it for Bane

@dracula - I keep reading this over and over. Can you highlight the part that even has his physique mentioned??? He’s tired of the makeup. And in another interview he said he’s willing to go back up to 320lbs to do Bane. So I don’t think his physique has jack to do with it.

@TheBarber23 - It was in another Drax article I think where he mentioned that he's getting too old to remain as big as he needs to be for this kind of role. Which is why it seems contradictory when he talks about bane.

@Fares - I get it but he ain’t exactly a Gerard butler or Ben Affleck or someone like that that bulks up for a role, He’s a legit bodybuilder and professional wrestler, he has real matured muscle that ain’t just gonna go away from leaving the gym for a while. Which I doubt he would ever do. However if that’s not the worst part, eating all that food is. I can definitely see being tired of that. I’m not even gonna talk about steroids. Oops, Well not anymore I mean

@dracula - do you think he saw the script and knows he’s just same ole bumbling Drax?

@Fares - I get that, but @dracula was talking about this article and just saying dumb shit as usual. And Dave has also said for Bane, he will make sure he looks the part, due to wanting the role so bad. Bottom line is his physique isn’t an issue yet and won’t be for about 5 years if need be. HGH, Tren, and Sus will keep him ready at all times.

While in one way I am sympathetic as I have heard many other actors throughout the years who have had to endure long hours in the make-up chair to turn into their characters complain about the grueling process, with Bautista it feels a little, well off to me. Maybe because it appears he has been a bit more negative than positive in a lot of his statements lately. Or it could just be me.

@Mugens - you're not the only one. He does sound overly negative and like he's no longer enjoying it.

@Mugens - he hates the role. It’s obvious. And I don’t blame him. His character has been poorly adapted and used as the big idiot in every film he is in. It feels like going backwards for him back to the big idiot henchman role and I applaud his honesty.

I get it, the make-up processes must be grueling and take a really long time.
He played the character for 4 movies now, heading into the fifth. So I get that he feels like he's done.

Hope they give the character a glorious send off and kill him in epic fashion

I understand the pain of his make up, something a lot of actors hate.

I'd love to see him get his own action franchise, with him as the lead.
There must be a book series or comic book role he can have.
