GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY: Michael Rooker Rules Out Yondu Return But Still Open To Another MCU Role - EXCLUSIVE

Love and Monsters star Michael Rooker makes it clear that his time as Yondu is over, but reiterates that he would be open to returning to the MCU while hilariously reflecting on his on-screen deaths...

Love and Monsters premieres at home and in select theaters on October 16th from Paramount Pictures, and takes place seven years after the "Monsterpocalypse." Humanity has been forced to hide underground, but Joel (Dylan O'Brien) decides to embark on a dangerous mission to reunite with his high school girlfriend Aimee (Jessica Henwick) after reconnecting with her over the radio. However, with dangerous monsters standing in his way, their reunion isn't going to be an easy one.

Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) and Ariana Greenblatt (Avengers: Infinity War) are also part of the cast, and we recently caught up with the former to discuss his role in the movie.

We'll bring you that tomorrow, but there was no way we weren't going to ask the legendary actor about his time as Yondu. The character was killed off in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but would Rooker be willing to return in a prequel or spinoff revolving around his former teammates? We asked exactly that, but didn't get quite the answer we were expecting (it is hilarious, however).

"I think Yondu is over, man. He died. Yondu not only died, but they burned him up! They burned him up and shot him into outer space...what else can I do? [Laughs] What else can I say? The character has gone," the actor laughed. "It's like The Walking Dead. Poor old Merle. They killed Merle two times, and then his brother mutilates his face."

"Oh my God [Laughs], it's like, 'C'mon!' When they kill me off, they kill me off, okay? There's no playing around. Guardians of the Galaxy, I burned to a crisp. I burnt to little stardust. How do you come back from that, right? The Walking Dead...I died two times in one scene! [Laughs] And then my brother killed me again! It's like, 'Okay guys, I get the hint. You don't want to work with me again. Just write the character out in a nice way next time, okay? You don't have to kill me. Trust me.' They could have just had me walk off into the sunset. I would've been happy. [Laughs]"

It's hard not to wonder whether Rooker is just trying to hide the fact there could be plans for Yondu in a story set in the past, and we then asked if playing another Marvel character is of interest.

"Of course! I would totally do something else, and it would be kind of cool to do something else, actually," he confessed. "I wouldn't mind that at all. I think it would be a lot of fun. It would be a wonderful way for fans to see...well, they see different aspects of your work all the time with different characters, so why not play someone else for Marvel or DC? It doesn't matter. You've got a good actor, and I'm calling myself a good actor, you can do a lot of different things and have a lot of fun. I think fans would get off on that."

Let's face it, more Rooker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be no bad thing, and it's great to hear that he's open to doing more in the DC Extended Universe as well. Time will tell whether that pans out, of course, but it should be well worth keeping an eye on his career beyond The Suicide Squad!

I know he was joking, but he’s not lying when he says he’s a good actor. Very underrated.

@dracula - I wasn't a fan of the ending. It got bad as it reached its end. A lot of that was due to the OG showrunner leaving by that point

@dracula - i wouldn't say its because its bad. Its more because there really arent a lot of opportunities to move forward without just making a spin off.
