There's a lot of excitement surrounding James Gunn's return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While we'll see the Guardians in Thor: Love and Thunder, it's up to The Suicide Squad director to put the spotlight back on the team in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
He'll have a lot of loose plot threads from Avengers: Endgame to deal with, of course, including that new Gamora and how Nebula is feeling after losing her original sister (and gunning down her past self). During a recent interview with Yahoo Entertainment, actress Karen Gillan discussed the impact reading Gunn's screenplay for Vol. 3 had on her.
"We read it in the same room together, and then looked at each other and we were in floods of tears," the Scottish actress said of her co-star Pom Klementieff (Mantis). "You’re learning more about existing characters and on a deeper level. I’m really excited at exploring Nebula, post-Thanos."
Fans of the MCU have been going nuts about the Nebula we got to spend time with in What If...? recently, though we're not expecting this version to undergo such a drastic transformation. Gunn has, however, described this threequel as a conclusion to the team's story, so it should be a lot of fun finding out where the character's story goes next...assuming she survives, that is.
There have been rumblings that shooting could begin later this year, though we're not anticipating production fully starting until 2022. As well as working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn and the cast will also film The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special ahead of its rumoured release on Disney+ next Christmas.
What do you hope to see next from Nebula in the MCU?
