MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE: Surprising New Plot Details And Character Breakdowns Have Been Revealed

Some plot details and character descriptions for the upcoming Master of the Universe reboot have come our way, and fans should be prepared for a few major - and sure-to-be divisive - changes to canon...

We recently found out that Sony's upcoming Masters of the Universe reboot had gained a pair of new directors, and now thanks to That Hashtag Show we have a much better idea of which classic characters will appear, as well as some fairly surprising new plot details.

HELLBOY Concept Artist Unveils Horrifying Interpretations Of MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Characters

The biggest alteration to the established animated series and comic book canon re-imagines He-Man and Skeletor as brothers!

In the upcoming film, King Randor will be presented as the great warrior-king of Eternia, a descendant of the Grayskulls, and the father of two sons: Adam and Keldor! As the film begins, Keldor is the chosen heir to the throne and his brother, Adam, is young, unfit and a bit of a black sheep.

Where Adam's relationship with his father is strained, Keldor is the epitome of a perfect son, beloved by his father...until the fate of Eternia is put on the line. With his kingdom on the line, Randor puts his people first, betraying Keldor, inciting the series of events that leads to him becoming the iconic Skeletor!

Apparently, Adam then sets out to assemble a group of warriors to take down his bro. There's no mention of the Power Sword that turns the prince into He-Man, but we assume it will come into play.

Below, we've listed some of the main and supporting characters that are expected to feature in the movie.

Duncan/Man-at-Arms

The King's right-hand man and weaponeer becomes one of He-Man's most loyal allies in the animated series, and it looks like the upcoming reboot will follow-suit.

Duncan is also expected to "serve as a main source of exposition due to his knowledge of Eternia's history."

Zodak

One of the franchise's most intriguing and popular antiheroes, Zodak was originally envisioned as a powerful immortal warrior, but it sounds like the movie plans to strip away some of the more fantastical elements associated with the character.

Here, Zodak will be the King's Minister of Technology, as is expected to take on a mentor role to Adam.

Teela

Daughter of Duncan, Captain of the Royal Guard, and Adam/He-Man's love interest; Teela is an integral part of pretty much all incarnations of Master of the Universe.

We don't know a whole lot about the movie version of the character, but she will serve in Eternia's military, anyway.

Orko

Orko fans should prepare to be disappointed, because it sounds like the reboot will take some major liberties with this little fella.

In the cartoon Orko was a floating alien magician, and served as comic relief. However, the live-action version of the character will be depicted as "a small man whose self-doubt holds him back from being a reasonably mediocre wizard."

Stratos

Stratos is generally depicted as the leader of a race of Bird People known as the Avion, and an ally of He-Man. However, it sounds like the movie will be giving the character a bit more of an edge.

For one, he'll be nicknamed the "Angel of Death," and will rule over the Sky Guards of the Iron Gate Prison "where Skeletor and his crew are imprisoned at one point."

Beast Man

Another classic character that'll be getting quite an extensive makeover for the movie is Skeletor's muscle, Beast Man.

It seems this ferocious villain will now be a shape-shifter with the ability to change into any animal that takes his fancy, "making him a useful spy for Skeletor as well as a formidable fighter."

Evil Lyn

Thankfully, it doesn't sound like they'll be taking too many liberties with Skeletor's wicked sorceress.

Just like in the cartoon/comics, Evil-Lyn will be "a powerful and intelligent witch who uses her power to help Skeletor reconstruct the Havok Staff." She's also described as the "femme-fatale" of the film.

Trap Jaw

Originally introduced as a mass-murdering psycho from another dimension, Trap Jaw was toned down considerably for the animated series and basically became the bad guys' bumbling comic relief.

Details on his upcoming big-screen appearance are sparse, but we do know that he'll still be a cyborg of some description.

This could be good...but with this film, New Gods and Guardians of the Galaxy, not to mention Star Wars...this could turn out to be an over saturation of the space opera genre.

no man-e-faces = 0/10, won’t be seeing.

nah but all jokes aside, this is gonna be an easy skip. he-man was never good and an adaptation reeks of profit hunger.

Doomed from the start. The 80s live-action flick was bad enough...this could very possibly be even worse.

So Thor. They're remaking Thor.

@MNLawyer - No their pulling from the He-Man comics.

@jst5 - If they were pulling from the comics Keldor is King Randor's brother, and Adam's uncle. That would be a lot less Thor, and much more Halmet/the Lion king....which would ultimately be better

Quite a few “He-Haters” in here.
I for one want a GOOD Masters Of The Universe movie.
Why be so negative right away. Have patience and love or hate on it after the trailers come out.

@AnthonyVonGeek - Well Orko for starters

Were getting this

Not this

But this

And who know what they will do for Cringer/Battlecat.

But if they have to make drastic changes on the characters then they don't believe in the product as it was; other companies have done that and they have failed miserably.

@chewie - Yeah it sucks to hear what they are doing to Orko.

I don't like the fact that they are revealing Skeletor's identity right away. He should be a mystery, at least initially.

Can you get anymore cliche than this?

Wont happen. Sony need to make a movie and get it in cinemas by December something 2019. If they don't shoot this summer it won't happen. Don't make them brothers, keep Skeletor his uncle. Drop the Clark Kent secret identity. Ignore that horribel 00s cartoon. Original (and New adventures) all the way.

Skeletor has been He-man's brother in most versions. Including DC's entire modern run of the comic.

@TheIronDuck - Well when you get the Marvel and DC idoits posting about something that doesn't have to do with one or the other if anything sounds close to what their world sounds like they jump to conclusions that something must've been stole from their world.Just have to look over the fanboys.

The movie world sounds like they are taking a lot from the comic world of He-man and that's a good thing. The He-Man comics were damn good.

@jst5 - If Masters of the Universe does well enough to get a trilogy or more they should build towards a movie adaptation of Dan Abnett's Eternity War.

@TheIronDuck - Skeletor has been He-Man's UNCLE in almost every version. He's never been his brother

Orko was my jam back in the 80’s! Now it looks like he’ll be the “little guy” from Willow. Can’t think of the characters name. Speaking of Willow, need to rewatch ASAP. Been too long.
