BOX OFFICE: Stephen King's IT Is Now The Highest Grossing Horror Movie Of All-Time

More fantastic news for Stephen King fans today as it's been revealed that IT is set to become the highest grossing horror movie of all-time. That's going to happen today when it surpasses The Exorcist's $232.9 million domestic gross and this result which bodes well for future adaptations of King's work.

As of right now, it's hovering around the $228 million mark and the movie is also nearing $400 million at the worldwide box office. In modern blockbuster terms that may not sound like an awful lot but bear in mind that IT was made for only $35 million, so these are massive profits for Warner Bros. A sequel is currently in the works which will tell the second half of the story but is there a future beyond that?

King wrote just the one story revolving around Pennywise the Clown but it's feasible that the studio could now expand on that by launching spinoffs which delve into the monstrous villain's past. After all, Pennywise rears his head every 27 years and there are a lot of different eras more movies could visit.

We'll have to wait and see but there are already rumblings that Warner Bros. could split the sequel in two! Have you guys seen IT? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section down below.

It Synopsis:

When children begin to disappear in the town of Derry, Maine, neighborhood kids band together to square off against Pennywise, an evil clown whose history of murder and violence dates back for centuries.

I wasn't planning on seeing this, but then I saw in my recommended feed on youtube Georgie's death scene, so I was like it's not gonna hurt if I watch this since I already know what happenes, and then I saw it and I'm like I gotta see this movie NOW.

@MattBellissimo - It was good, but it wasn't a horror movie. Only the projector scene was scary in my eyes, but that was just jump scare. Look, I really love this movie - don't get me wrong, but it wasn't as good and scary as I hoped. But that's just personally.

@Unites - The first scene a child is dismembered and bleeds out in a gutter... its a horror movie lol

@Ha1frican - I really loved that scene! But it isn't that explicit or scary.

@Unites - isnt that explicit... A CHILD ARM IS RIPPED OFF lol you literally see him crawling away with a gushing stump. What would you consider to be actually scary im curious bc if this movie isnt then i dont know what is. I would say that it isnt more scary or explicit than it is funny and heartfelt but its still is those things

@Unites - You're right its no Rob Zombie shock horror type stuff... but it has plenty of moments that make it a horror movie. It's just not the absolute scariest movie ive ever seen. But on the slip side, its one of the better movies ive seen as a whole. But to say its not a horror movie isn't accurate to me at all... It most certainly is.

Please god, just make one more movie. One. We don't need any more.

For anyone who is worried about how scary this movie is....if you can watch a show like Stranger Things, you can certainly watch this movie.

@MattBellissimo - while I didn't find It all that scary (but there are very few movies that scare me these days) it is in a different league altogether to Stranger Things. Stranger Things wasn't remotely scary. 'It' didn't have much in the way of jump scares but it still had some pretty disturbing shit. Seeing an innocent little boy get his arm chewed off and dragged into a sewer isn't exactly something Stranger Things is gonna touch. Or what about when they open the door to find the top half of a girl screaming, chained to a roof with the bottom half of her body eaten away? Disturbing imagery that sticks with you.

I can see what youre saying though.

@connorblaze - Stranger Things still had a bit of disturbing imagery, but I was referring more to jump scares. I think just in terms of balancing humour, horror, and heart, they're both along the same lines, but I agree, "It" definitely was more unsettling.

@MattBellissimo - While i agree it isnt mind numbingly scary its in a different league than Stranger Things for sure

@MattBellissimo - Will you let me caress your beard the whole time like we did through Stranger Things? You might not remember since you were unconscious.

@MattBellissimo - It's pretty much impossible to scare me. I grew up watching horror movies with my parents, and have been reading King since I was seven. But there are things I find creepy. Horror fans will know what these mean: jerk walk, shaky head, ceiling crawl. Things like that. Anything with really unnatural movements. And It had quite a bit of that. Really good movie.
