Okay, so I enjoyed Piranha 3d. It was far from perfect but its use of the extended cameo really made it worth wild—who doesn’t want to see a straight to DVD creature feature starring about ten at one point or another really famous people in 3D with big ol’ bag of movie popcorn in front of the big screen?
It was really the film's success of creating the faux cult following that made this first movie worth a minute. (Also enjoyable was some comical promotion on Funny or Die featuring the cast of Piranha 3D demanding Oscar nomination)s. I really thought at the least I was promised Elizabeth Shue would return for the sequel. I thought there was a good chance we would have some better follow up to the first movie and even if you throw Christopher Lloyd back in the mix in the sequel I’m not sure that will cut it with this new cast. You also had Eli Roth and handful of porn stars popping into Piranha 3D to solidify that grindhouse glory. Not too mention, now you have all these movies following Piranha 3D's lead, like Shark Night 3D, etc. Although most of these movies, and now perhaps P3DoubleD, seem to be headed towards the quality of a straight-to-DVD experience, more a kin to the adult teen horror killer slashers, like 2010’s The Final Destination.
Well here’s the new cast, the most famous person at first glance is David Kochner, Champ from Anchorman. He is not that famous (as well as sometimes having great comedic roles, he was in The Final Destination.)
From comingsoon.net:
“Dimension Films has officially unveiled the cast of its upcoming horror sequel, Piranha 3DD, which begins production today in Wilmington, NC.
Arriving from Feast director John Gulager, Piranha 3DD will include Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, David Koechner, Meagan Tandy, Paul James Jordan, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Hector Jimenez, Adrian Martinez and Clu Gulager with more to be announced soon. “
Compared to the cast from Piranha 3D, it doesn’t compare. Don’t really need pictures of most of them.
Ving Rhames, Elisabeth Shue, Christopher Lloyd, Eli Roth, Jerry O'Connell, Steven R. McQueen, Kelly Brook, Riley Steele, Adam Scott, Dina Meyer, Paul Scheer, and
Richard Dreyfuss
From comingsoon.net:
“The official plot description for the sequel is as follows:
There’s something in the water . . . again. And this time no one is safe from the flesh eating fish as they sink their razor sharp teeth into the visitors of the best summer attraction, The Big Wet Water Park.
Piranha 3DD is scheduled to hit theaters on November 23, 2011.”
As long as someone like Jerry O’Connell has a miserable death I guess it could work out.
