Dimension Films Loses The Rights To The HALLOWEEN Franchise

It seems that the future of the HALLOWEEN franchise is now in flux, as Dimension Films has just lost the rights to the property. What does this mean for the future of 'Michael Myers'?

Dimension Films, who have held the rights to the Halloween franchise for the last two decades, has just witnessed the property slip through their fingers as many sources, including The Wrap and Bloody Disgusting, are reporting.  Although this may come as a shock to some, it should be noted that Dimension has been trying to get a new Halloween film off the ground for years now, with little results. A couple of iterations of Halloween 3D were announced but never materialised, a film under the title of Halloween: The Next Chapter was reported, and The Hollywood Reporter at one point revealed Dimension's plans for a reboot. Dimension's current project was Halloween Returns, but the fate of that film is now a dubious one.

The future of the franchise remains uncertain, though it is currently being shopped around by Miramax Films. Bloody Disgusting speculates that the franchise could end up at New Line Cinema or Paramount and join the ranks of Jason Voorhees, Freddy Kruger, and Leatherface. For now, only time will tell the future of Halloween.

I can see it now... a cinematic universe with Freddy, Jason, Michael, and Leatherface..... DO IT.

Oh no. Rob Zombie can't make another Halloween movie. What a shame. (Hopefully whoever picks the rights up are smart enough to not give him the reigns again)

@chriskrispy

He wasn't going to, anyway. They had a movie planned that was a direct sequel to the original H2, which was going to be directed by Marcus Dunstan.

@EthanSmith1 That actually sounds moderately interesting. Guess I just figured we'd get a trilogy because it's the 21st century and shit

Let the franchise die.

No matter where the rights end up, it's not like anyone is actually going to make an excellent film with an 80% RT Score and creative twist on the same Michael-Shows-Up-And-Kills-People plot that we've seen 100 times now. That being said, if you turn your brain off, you can still find entertainment in none of these films. If any combination of Freddy, Jason, Michael, and Leatherface were to occur on screen in the future, I'd probably go see it.
