Still no sign of a trailer (we might just get one by the weekend, so keep an eye out), but thanks to Fangoria Magazine's latest cover (via FearHQ), we do have a chilling new look at Jamie Clayton's Pinhead from Hulu's upcoming Hellraiser reboot.
Clayton taking over the role of the Hell Priest has come in for some backlash from the "anti-woke" brigade, but despite being played by Doug Bradley in the original movie, the character was actually written as androgynous in Clive Barker's The Hellbound Heart novella.
"We felt a kind of anticipation around the fans to reimagine the character," director David Bruckner tells EW. "We knew we wanted Pinhead to be a woman. Jamie was just the right person for the role. A person's identity can be really exciting for a role in many ways, but I have to emphasize that Jamie absolutely killed, that's how we got there."
The new issue of Fangoria will hit news-stands on October 11. Check out the cover below.
Barker's 1987 adaptation of his own novella introduced one of cinema's most recognizable and enduring movie monsters in Pinhead, the leader of a group of demonic beings known as Cenobites. The movie went on to achieve cult status, spawning multiple inferior sequels, a short-lived TV series, comic books, and more.
Specific details on this new version are still few and far between, but Bruckner recently gave us a better idea of what to expect. "It's the tale of a young woman, who's struggling with addiction and compulsive behavior, that comes in contact accidentally with the box and unfortunately begins to dabble with it. And chaos ensues."
Hellraiser is set to premiere on October 7.
