HELLRAISER Promo Gives Us A Teasing Glimpse Of Jamie Clayton As Pinhead

Following the recent confirmation that Hulu's new Hellraiser movie will be officially rated R (no surprise there), the streamer (via FearHQ) has announced that the horror reboot will premiere just in time for Halloween on October 7.

The accompanying synopsis reads: "In the all-new Hellraiser, a young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension."

We also have a brief promo, and while it doesn't feature any footage, it does give us a first look at the movie's logo and a teasing glimpse of Jamie Clayton's (Sense8, The L Word: Generation Q) new take on the Hell Priest, aka Pinhead.

The demonic fetishist can be seen in the background as the title scrolls by. It's far from a clear reveal, but we should get a better look fairly soon.

Odessa A'Zion (CBS series Fam and Netflix's Grand Army) has also been confirmed for the lead role of Riley, and the supporting cast will consist of Brandon Flynn (13 Reasons Why, Ratched,) Goran Visnjic (The Boys, ER,) Drew Starkey (Outer Banks, Love, Simon,) Adam Faison (Everything’s Gonna Be Okay, Into the Dark), Aoife Hinds (Normal People, Anne Boleyn,) and Hiam Abbass (Blade Runner 2049, Succession).

Barker will produce alongside Marc Toberoff, David S. Goyer and Keith Levine. David Bruckner (The Night House, The Ritual) is directing from a screenplay by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski (The Night House, Super Dark Times).

"Next year marks the 35th anniversary since 'Hellraiser' first haunted our dreams. It's only fitting to come full circle in collaborating with Clive, the original creator and master of visionary horror. We look forward to working with our partners at Hulu in bringing this unique take on the original to new audiences," Bruckner said in a statement last year. "It's been such an honor to have Clive onboard to help support and shepherd us through the incredible universe he created so long ago. Combined with a fearless and committed cast, including the amazing Jamie Clayton, who fully embodies the role as the Hell Priest, we're aiming to create a very special new chapter in the ‘Hellraiser’ legacy."

Barker's 1987 adaptation of his own novella introduced one of cinema's most recognizable and enduring movie monsters in Pinhead, the leader of a group of demonic beings known as Cenobites. The movie went on to achieve cult status, spawning multiple inferior sequels, a short-lived TV series, comic books, and more.

Specific details on this new version are still under wraps, but Spyglass has described it as “loyal, yet evolved.” A separate HBO series is also in the works from Halloween (2018) director David Gordon Green.

Hulu butchered Clive Barker’s fantastic Books of Blood, I’ve low expectations for this.

Pinhead is a man. Clive Barker wrote and directed the movie with him as a man. But let’s gender swap everything because woke will be woke.

TheyDont - 8/25/2022, 8:51 AM
@TyrantBossMedia - It's still played by a man, technically.

@TyrantBossMedia - Look, it's cool, we get it - you'd rather see the fetish demon who specializes in extreme kink and sadism be played by a man than a woman.
HeeroG
HeeroG - 8/25/2022, 9:30 AM
@TyrantBossMedia - First, what was her name and what she did to let you so hurt and insecure like this?

Secondly, in Clive's original book The Hellbound Heart, Pinhead's gender is left entirely vague, and their mutilations are described with notable differences from the film version:

"Its voice, unlike that of its companion, was light and breathy--the voice of an excited girl. Every inch of its head had been tattooed with an intricate grid, and at every intersection of horizontal and vertical axes a jeweled pin driven through to the bone. Its tongue was similarly decorated."

@RorMachine - I'd rather see the demon who was written as a man, by the original author and is iconic be represented properly.

But how nice if you to not be able to defend your side of the argument so instead you for the insults.
How original.
TyrantBossMedia
TyrantBossMedia - 8/25/2022, 9:38 AM
@HeeroG - And another personal attack. How about that.

And I have seen that same quote bandied about here by others trying to defend that argument.

But Clive Barker WROTE and DIRECTED the original movie. Therefore he represented Pinhead as a man.
And THAT is the iconic Pinhead.

Nice try.

@HeeroG -

Yup. It was always female in nature but they don't care.

@TyrantBossMedia - well this person was born a man....so still played be a man
Benjamitesandwich
Benjamitesandwich - 8/25/2022, 9:48 AM
@TyrantBossMedia - And he wrote the original novella. What’s your argument? Are you aware that Clive Barker has the rights to the franchise back in his hands and is producing this movie? Did you stop to think that he has a say in what happens with this reboot? Because he does. This is what he wanted. The man himself said, “Make it so,” and this adaptation is androgynous, just like his original vision.

Your argument fights against itself.

TyrantBossMedia - 8/25/2022, 9:52 AM
@TheShape9859 - Oh, I didn't know that. So I guess you're right.
TyrantBossMedia
TyrantBossMedia - 8/25/2022, 9:57 AM
@Benjamitesandwich - A producers credit is not the same as being the writer and director. And he just wants the money so of course he is going to go along with a remake.

You are all so keen on Pinhead being Androgynous but then praise to the heavens that the iconic villain is suddenly played by a woman (or a man who thinks he is a woman).

Demigods
Demigods - 8/25/2022, 10:01 AM
@HeeroG - I did NOT know that.

Curious why the change now, but as long as it's loyal to the source material, I'm in.

MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 8/25/2022, 10:13 AM
@TyrantBossMedia - Fist off, The Hell Priest wasn't written as a man - which has been pointed out to you repeatedly - and second, that wasn't an insult, it's what's known as a joke. Just trying to break the monotony of you repeating the same, tired, banal things on every single article that covers any subject that might be deemed "woke."
soberchimera
soberchimera - 8/25/2022, 10:23 AM
@RorMachine - Pinhead was originally a British military officer named Elliot Spencer, this was revealed in Hellraiser II, but Clive Barker who wrote The Hellbound Heart novel and directed the first movie wrote the story treatment for the sequel.
TheSuperMex
TheSuperMex - 8/25/2022, 10:32 AM
@TyrantBossMedia - you have to be trolling at this point. It’s already been pointed out to you that Pinhead was a woman in the original source. Stop being a hypocrite. Sounds like you some deep seeded issues.

Benjamitesandwich
Benjamitesandwich - 8/25/2022, 11:08 AM
@TyrantBossMedia - Any interpretation or adaptation of anything that so long as adheres to the spirit of the original work is fine in my eyes. And this new adaptation has given many indications that it will. Whether Pinhead is a male (as I adore in the original movies) or androgynous (played by a trans female in this new movie) matters very little to me. I’m simply calling out the people who cry about source material until it no longer suits their worldview. You can say Pinhead is a male all you would like (which is true for the last movie series), but it hasn’t always been the case (as indicated by Hellbound Heart). You have to at least acknowledge this.
TyrantBossMedia
TyrantBossMedia - 8/25/2022, 11:13 AM
@RorMachine - A joke.... okay, keep telling yourself that.

I already addressed the source material and you can read my postings on this elsewhere and then on the post below from @soberchimera

And if you don't want the same "tired, banal" comments.....then stop writing the same banal, tired articles. You guys write 8 articles on the same interview or same topic and expect a different discussion.

TyrantBossMedia
TyrantBossMedia - 8/25/2022, 11:14 AM
@TheSuperMex - Wrong. I have refuted this already.

And look yet ANOTHER personal attack. You guys have nothing else to offer and it's hysterical.
TyrantBossMedia
TyrantBossMedia - 8/25/2022, 11:16 AM
@Benjamitesandwich - Pinhead is iconic. He is a male as written by Clive Barker in the original movie.

It is not about "worldview" it is about accuracy.
kamarova
kamarova - 8/25/2022, 11:40 AM
@TyrantBossMedia - the funniest thing is that gender swapping has become a rule and these guys always defend these decisions with arguments as if it were the exception. I understand, maybe Cenobites not having clear sexual characteristics make sense, but let's stop pretending this casting was an actual creative decission, and not yet another mindless "woke" trend execution.
kamarova
kamarova - 8/25/2022, 11:47 AM
@RorMachine - this is a clear policy implementation, identical to the fact that in an American film, for example, one of the main characters must always be black. It's about politics, money, market research, not just any care for the source material, I'm shocked at how naive you are.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 8/25/2022, 11:50 AM
@TyrantBossMedia - I mean, unless you think I *actually* believe you'd rather Pinhead was played by a man so you could get your jollies, then yes, it was a joke.

Oh I've read your "arguments" ... Things should be true to their source material, unless it conflicts with your narrative, in which case the movie should be held up as the *real* source, because Pinhead was played by a man in it. Now, we have a trans woman playing him, which must just leave you perplexed as to which position to take on the matter.

@TyrantBossMedia - Also as written by him, the Cenobites, including Pinhead, are all androgynous. He literally wrote both interpretations. What part of this are you not getting?

TyrantBossMedia - 8/25/2022, 12:26 PM
@kamarova - You nailed it.
TyrantBossMedia
TyrantBossMedia - 8/25/2022, 12:27 PM
@kamarova - Oh it's not naivety. It's agenda and he's fully in line with the agenda.
TyrantBossMedia
TyrantBossMedia - 8/25/2022, 12:31 PM
@RorMachine - It was an insult that you are now trying to mask as a joke. Stop pretending otherwise.

I am always and have always been a fan a source material. You should know that by now.
But what's funny is that the only time people who align with your agenda love to change source material.
However, when we want to stay faithful to the source material (and the source in this case is the original Hellraiser movie franchise)....then you are ALL about changing the definition of "source material".

The next time we complain about a race swapped Batgirl or other the prospect of a gender swapped Dr. Who, or a race swapped Charles Xaver....I'll sit back and watch you guys cry "interpretation".

You want it your way because hypocrisy is your way.
TyrantBossMedia
TyrantBossMedia - 8/25/2022, 12:33 PM
@Benjamitesandwich - Yet in the movie Pinhead was clearly a male and had another male and female cenobite with him.

You only want it androgynous suddenly because it fits your political narrative.
HeeroG
HeeroG - 8/25/2022, 12:41 PM
@TyrantBossMedia - You are you still here crying, even after being proven wrong?

@RorMachine - You have a very clear agenda. I have more respect for you if you own it.

Like @soberchimera posted, in your tolerance you accused someone who doesn't like that Pinhead is being portrayed by a man who thinks he is a woman of being Gay.
