An article in The Gaurdian has pointed to the fact that Matthew Vaughn may be involved with making a movie based on the Image Comics mini-series Turf by British talk show host Jonathan Ross and comic book artist, Tommy Lee Edwards:

"There will be five further issues, a hardback collection and – if all goes to plan – a Turf movie made by Matthew Vaughn, the producer of Ross's wife's current hit comic-book film Kick-Ass."

Turf is set in Prohibition-era New York. It tell's the story of a gang war between booze-smuggling mobsters and vampires – the bloodthirsty Dragonmir family from eastern Europe – with an alien thrown in for good measure.

Jonathan Ross is married to Kick-Ass screenwriter and producer Jane Goldman and has claimed in the past to be the one who actually introduced Vaughn to Mark Millar which would later result in the duo teaming up to adapt Millar's comic book onto the big screen.

Nice find Josh. Sounds interesting

It's stuff like this that makes me wonder if Vaughn will ever get a crack at Avengers or any Marvel/DC movie for that matter. He really enjoys being independent from the big studios.

Yeah Vaughn for Avengers!!, This movie should be good with Vaughn at the Helm. Anyone know what else he has done besides Kick Ass?

Yeah, never heard of Ross until Kick-Ass news started coming out. He's pretty big out there in the UK, huh? Is he Britain's version of Oprah?

Ross is actually a MAJOR comic book fan (owns and wears a Spidey suit) and is easily one of the most entertaining men on TV.

DogsOfWar - if Oprah dropped the F bomb regularly, asked movie stars about sexual preferences and filled every show with inuendo, then kindof. He's more a wittier Leno.

DOGS: Thanks man! :) Yeah, now Vaughn has had a taste of independence he might choose to stay that way in future...it's good in some ways (especially if he were to make an authentic adaptation of something like Mark Millar's Nemesis) but a pity if that means he wont have a go at some Marvel and DC characters!

And here's an example of Jonathan Ross in action...

If this is true, this should be great.
@superdog, yes they make british comics 2000AD is a prime example of a british distributor. Also Turf is distributed through Image Comics. You can be british and write for an american comic.

I read the interview in the paper's pull out at the weekend... totally forgot to put it on here.

Oh well, this is a personal project Ross is releasing with Image. He turned down Marvel.

I also read the first issue... its pretty good very old style alot of text but actually doesnt seem to bad when you read it.. the story is pretty good but the Aliens bit kinda felt like it was jumping the shark.

Vaughn has been mainly the producer through his career. He has produced movies like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch., Mean Machine, Swept Away, Layer Cake, Harry Brown, The Debt and Stardust. He has directed just three movies. Layer Cake, Stardust and now Kick-Ass. Ouh and he has also writed just three movies. Those are Stardust, The Debt and Kick-Ass.:)
