Many people assumed that 10 Cloverfield Lane would be a direct sequel to Matt Reeves' original film, but during an interview with Empire, producer J.J. Abrams insisted that though this is a "spiritual successor", it's very much its own thing - with its own monster!

"Well, what I’ll say is that there is a new monster in this movie," the Star Wars: The Force Awakens director confirmed. "It isn’t the Cloverfield monster that you know, but this all plays into a sort of larger conceit that we have. As I said earlier, calling it Cloverfield 2 would have been overtly misleading. This is definitely its own thing.

10 Cloverfield Lane was written by Josh Campbell, Matthew Stuecken and Damien Chazelle, and directed by Dan Trachtenberg. It stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Goodman and John Gallagher Jr., and is scheduled for release on March 11th 2016.

@NeoBaggins -
Other than a great cast and excited to return to this world, I am so freaking happy that they had this film under wraps for so long. We live in an age where we know every thing months to years in advance even before pre-production I am happy that I can go into a film where I do not know anything about it

@TheAcuario - Very ballsy to drop the film in our laps without warning. Awesome treat. Loved CLOVERFIELD and have no idea what to expect from this.

@TheAcuario - Can, not, [frick]ing, wait. Got my tickets, good seats. Its LieMax, but the screen is still big. SF Metreon is doing renovations for a month and aren't showing BvS on their massive IMAX screen. How stupid are they? Renovating during a film this big? smh

@TheAcuario - Oh, this is a CLOVERFIELD thread lol Damn, only a week?

TheAcuario - 3/3/2016, 8:06 AM
@NeoBaggins - That is really stupid shake my damn head man sorry to hear that. Where will you be going? I am going to north side of Boston because it is the only place i can reserve seats for Imax and yes this is the Cloverfield thread hahaha
TheAcuario
TheAcuario - 3/3/2016, 8:07 AM
@NeoBaggins - The film is released next week so I am going to go see it in IMAX

@TheAcuario - Since the real IMAX is renovating, stupidly, I'll see CLOVERFIELD at the place I'll be seeing BvS. Its only an exit away out here IN fremont. Super close. They built a new LieMax theater. But its really clean and plush with reclining seats. I think the Dolby Prime theater is better than their "IMAX" theater. Bug screen and optimum sound system. I'll see Clover there as a test run.

@NeoBaggins - Yeah thats how the theaters are or least the AMC ones i should say I got so used to them that I feel spoiled when I go to theater with regular seats now I hate it

Damn, man. This shit is coming out next week. Just imagine a cbm juggernaut like Justice League or Avengers being announced barely a couple of months before its release. It'll never happen because of all the merchandising and marketing to boost sales, but holy shit, it would've been [frick]ing nuts!

I saw this almost a year ago at a test screening and there are no literal monsters in the film, only humans doing monstrous things. It was a picture locked movie with finished effects, so unless they did some pretty big reshoots in the last 6 months there are going to be some very disappointed viewers out there.

That said it was a really well written little thriller, well acted and shot with a wonderful sense of claustrophobia and impending dread.
If they did add real monsters I think the picture would actually lose something fundamental.

@MaddAddaM - What's she looking at in the thumbnail of the video at the end of the article?

@MaddAddaM - You're a total dick for spoiling the movie for everyone.

@TheFlashFarts - in a related topic, I was in the test screening for Warcraft a few months ago... That movie is DOPE!
MaddAddaM
MaddAddaM - 3/6/2016, 1:23 PM
@TheFlashFarts - The article itself says it's not a cloverfield sequel and doesn't feature the monster. I could give you scene by scene breakdown but chose not to because I'm not interested in spoiling the film or the twists towards the end. The trailers don't feature a monster, nor do the posters so I'm not sure what you think I've ruined. If anything you should be pissed at JJ for choosing the name 10 Cloverfield Lane as a bait-and-switch, and now for clearly walking back those earlier comments to temper peoples expectations.

I'm actually looking forward to this movie. I hope its good cause nothing effs a a scary movie more than a shitty story but the first cloverfield was good so I'll give it a go.

Anybody hear anything about follow up to District 9?
TheAcuario
TheAcuario - 3/2/2016, 2:32 PM
@PrincessLeather - I believe the follow up was scrapped?
NegativeNerd

Damn...that's a pretty deep poster.

Open question: Do you guys think there will be an actual monster in this film? Why or why not? I would be fine with it either way, but I think some people may be disappointed as there is a roar heard at the end of the trailer. Thoughts?

Now that I know it's not a sequel I prob won't watch it until it's on Netflix.

What if it's another monster that fights the cloverfield monster in the sequel
