THE EXORCIST: BELIEVER - Ellen Burstyn's Chris MacNeil Returns To Face Her Demons In New Trailer

Universal has debuted what will likely be the final trailer for David Gordon Green's The Exorcist: Believer, and it contains plenty of creepy new footage from the upcoming horror sequel...

"We've met before..."

Just in case there was any confusion, it now seems clear that this demon is the same one Chris MacNeil faced all those years ago in William Friedkin's original horror masterpiece.

Blumhouse and Universal (via FearHQ.com) have released a brand-new trailer for David Gordon Green's (The recent Halloween revival trilogy) The Exorcist: Believer, and it finds Ellen Burstyn's returning protagonist coming face-to-face with a pair of possessed young girls.

The inhabiting demon (though there may be two?) doesn't give its name, but the fact that he remembers Chris' daughter, Regan, means it is very likely the powerful entity known as Pazuzu.

We have heard rumors that Linda Blair is also set to reprise her role as Regan, but Green declined to confirm as much during a recent interview.

Believer will serve as a direct sequel to The Exorcist (whether it ignores the events of the other movies remains to be seen), as MacNeil is called in to help when two pre-teen girls (Lidya Jewett and Olivia Marcum) are found after a supposed kidnapping in a state of "synchronized possession."

Check out the terrifying new trailer below, and let us know what you think in the comments section down below.

"Exactly 50 years ago this fall, the most terrifying horror film in history landed on screens, shocking audiences around the world. Now, on Friday, October 13, a new chapter begins. From Blumhouse and director David Gordon Green, who shattered the status quo with their resurrection of the Halloween franchise, comes The Exorcist: Believer.

Since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Tony winner and Oscar nominee Leslie Odom, Jr.; One Night in Miami, Hamilton) has raised their daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett, Good Girls) on his own. But when Angela and her friend Katherine (newcomer Olivia Marcum), disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil."

The Exorcist: Believer also stars Ann Dowd as Victor and Angela’s neighbor, and Jennifer Nettles and Norbert Leo Butz as the parents of Katherine, Angela’s friend.

The movie is set to hit theaters on October 13, with sequel, The Exorcist: Deceiver, arriving on April 18, 2025.

This is a better trailer, but still eh.

I gotta say though, when the first trailer played in front of Oppenheimer, everyone in my theater freaked the [frick] out at the black and white part at the end lol.

the only good exorcist film is the first one

Halloween 2017 was just a rehash and the sequels were just terrible

have no faith these people will do justice to the original, the first horror film to be nominated for best picture

@dracula - The Conjuring I is a really good exorcism movie.

David Gordon Greene is a creatively bankrupt hack so of course he is using Pazuzu.

They should have made the whole movie be in black and white. The images actually look creepy compared to everything in color. The trailer is also cut too modern. They needed to go with an older school approach.

@micvalpro - A lot of these horror movies do. I thought that was the best thing about Halloween Ends was it felt like an old Carpenter horror flick. Movies like this should absolutely embrace it. The modern look and effects just don't work with Horror movies for the most part.

Possession movies aren’t even scary or creepy anymore to me. They’re so goofy. Anyone see the Popes Possession? That had to be the goofiest and most hilarious possession films I’ve seen and this one looks like more of the same goofiness to me. 🤷‍♂️😴

@AnthonyVonGeek - Fun watch on the airplane. Felt like a no-frills 90s movie with a best-actor Oscar winner in the lead. Had some stupid stuff, but it held up for what it was: a movie about people possessed by Lucifer and the exorcism thereof, which is a pretty ridiculous premise.

@AnthonyVonGeek - Pope's Exorcist? Yeah, it was okay - possession films just aren't frightening or scary to me, but I thought it was decently well done when compared to other films. I liked that it didn't take itself too overly serious. Still a mediocre horror film though.

It would be a very bold route if they actually do end up having to choose only 1 girl to save.

Seems that even Chris will face some gruesome injuries in those quick white-and-black shots when confronting Pazuzu or whatever other evil entity it is. D:
