Werewolf by Night premiered on Disney+ earlier this month, and it proved to be a story unlike any other we've seen from Marvel Studios before.
Adding monsters to the MCU suggests Kevin Feige has big plans to explore a very different corner of this shared world, and the expectation is that it will lead to projects like Midnight Suns and Legion of Monsters becoming a reality.
Only a single trailer was released for Werewolf by Night prior to its release, and Marvel Studios built excitement for their first Special Presentation by keeping these monsters under wraps. We obviously got to see the title character in action, but similar to many classic horror movies, he was hidden in shadow for the most part.
Now, some official stills have been released offering our best look yet at the MCU's take on Jack Russell (played by the excellent Gael García Bernal).
We also get to see Laura Donnelly as Elsa Bloodstone, Harriet Sansom Harris as Verussa, Kirk R. Thatcher as Jovan, Daniel J. Watts as Barasso, Eugenie Bondurant as Azarel, and Leonardo Nam as Liorn. Aside from Elsa, none of those characters will return because they were killed over the course of this surprisingly bloody Marvel Studios Special Presentation.
"A Halloween horror delight, Werewolf by Night is a mighty impressive, macabre Marvel monster tale that introduces some killer new characters and proves Marvel Studios can still find plenty of ways to surprise us," we said in our review yesterday. "More Man-Thing is a must!"
There have already been rumblings that Marvel Studios has plans to continue introducing monsters in specials like this one, and we do hope the wait for Werewolf by Night and Man-Thing's return won't be too long. They have a great dynamic, and Elsa Bloodstone is another character who it would be fun to see brought to the forefront in the MCU.
