During the Q and A, Elfman was asked whether or not the iconic Dark Shadows TV theme music will be used in Tim Burton's upcoming film adaptation. Find out what Elfman had to say after the jump.
"We had this discussion with Batman," said Elfman, "[about] whether we wanted to incorporate the TV theme. And Tim said, ‘No, don't do that.' And on Planet of the Apes, once again, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; that was a big one – "Do we incorporate it in?" "No." So I'm just guessing that he's gonna say no again, that he's gonna want to develop his own language and dialogue for this."
"Having said that," Elfman laughed, "who knows? You may just hear a theramin!"
His response is actually surprising to me. I went to the
Dark Shadows New York Comic Con panel just a couple weeks ago and the same question was asked. One of the actresses from the classic soap opera was in attendance and she said pretty confidently that Robert Cobert's music would be included. Take a listen to the original theme below and decide if you think it needs to be included or not.
“Dark Shadows” will star: Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham-Carter, Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green, Chloe Moretz and Jackie Earle Haley and is slated for a May 2012 release.
