Will Danny Elfman Incorporate The Original Dark Shadows Television Theme?

Danny Elfman contributed in a Q&A session for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's Tim Burton retrospective. He was asked if the haunting music would be used in the film.

During the Q and A, Elfman was asked whether or not the iconic Dark Shadows TV theme music will be used in Tim Burton's upcoming film adaptation. Find out what Elfman had to say after the jump.

"We had this discussion with Batman," said Elfman, "[about] whether we wanted to incorporate the TV theme. And Tim said, ‘No, don't do that.' And on Planet of the Apes, once again, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; that was a big one – "Do we incorporate it in?" "No." So I'm just guessing that he's gonna say no again, that he's gonna want to develop his own language and dialogue for this."

"Having said that," Elfman laughed, "who knows? You may just hear a theramin!"

His response is actually surprising to me. I went to the Dark Shadows New York Comic Con panel just a couple weeks ago and the same question was asked. One of the actresses from the classic soap opera was in attendance and she said pretty confidently that Robert Cobert's music would be included. Take a listen to the original theme below and decide if you think it needs to be included or not.

“Dark Shadows” will star: Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham-Carter, Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green, Chloe Moretz and Jackie Earle Haley and is slated for a May 2012 release.

If they are not going to use it they has to invent something similar at least.
Theme has to sound creepy and mystic.

People rag on Shayamalan because his Avatar movie was dismal and wooden. At the very least, he does have a unique quality present in all of his films. Each has a family presence that is above reproach to each story, and regardless of how bad the respective movie's cast may be, the actors understand this. Most people cannot appreciate this.

Burton isn't doing any wrong here, not that my cynical eye can see anyway. From Johnny Depp to Jonny Lee Miller, the cast looks terrific - let's hope the story can match it.

How can I argue against such a statement?

I like Tim Burton movies no matter how much people seem to say they're tired of his shtick. To me it's like saying "[frick] i'm getting tired of animation". I'd take any Tim Burton film before any Scorcese, Coppola or Kubrick film. Why? Cause the man has his own style just like any other filmmaker and it just so happens it appeals to me.

@BigTodd71 Thank you for letting us all know your tastes aren't more important than mine. We can now discount your opinions as well.

HOW THE CRAP COULD IT NOT BE?!?!? Otherwise it's not DARK SHADOWS. The music is more iconic than the characters. Tim Burton don't give the haters anymore ammo.

Batman TV show, Planet of the Apes, and Charie and the Chocolate factory are so NOT appropriate examples, since those precursors themselves were interpretations of previous media (comics, novels, etc). DS TV show is THE SOURCE. If they don't have the iconic DS TV theme in there somewhere, they are complete idiots.
