So this is the first article I've decided to do on here and I chose this subject because, well, to be honest I'm tired of reading how "Planet HULK" wouldn't work, couldn't work and shouldn't be made.
I'll start off by addressing the most recent thing I read which was from Kevin Feige and which was ultimately the reason I decided to actually write this. According to Kevin the big reason why they don't like the concept of doing Planet HULK is because they want to explore Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner more in the MCU and obviously Bruce isn't actually in the "Planet HULK" book.
The problem with this is the MCU isn't true to the books anyway, "Winter Soldier" won't be a direct to film version of Ed Brubaker's book, Iron Man 3 certainly wasn't a true direct to film version of "Extremis" so why would they assume "Planet HULK" can't be adapted to suit the MCU and explore Banner further in a similar fashion.
Here's my pitch and I'll not only state that it would work perfectly but it would also open up possibilities to still later on down the line make arguably the greatest action film of all time "World War HULK"
This is how I believe it would work by tweaking the book to fit the MCU...
During the course of these alien incursions maybe in Avengers 2, Banner is exposed to some form of E.T radiation now deposited in Earth's atmosphere that reacts negatively to the high concentrations of Gamma in his blood and blocks him from reverting back from the HULK into Bruce. HULK is then seen as too great a threat by the council from Avengers and is (without the knowledge of The Avengers) cast into space. HULK crash lands on the alien planet furious and is tossed into the Gladiator arena, carnage ensues. Later in the cell HULK is locked in now away from the radiation in Earths atmosphere he reverts back into Bruce as he sleeps, Bruce then awakens in the cell, on an alien world, with no idea how he got there or whats going on (infinite comedy potential).
The story is then two fold, you have Ruffalo's Banner displaying his genius and working on a way to get home whilst in the cell at night and the HULK doing his thing during the day in the gladiator arena.
It now becomes a story about exploring the complex relationship between Banner and HULK and forcing them into a situation by were they have to work together to achieve their mutual goal.
We've never really got to see Banner's brilliance in the cinema and by dumping him on an alien world with no idea how he got there we provide an opportunity to see his mind shine along with epic HULK scenes in a gladiator arena. Planet HULK could easily be spread over 2 magnificent films.
You then have the option of Banner succeeding in creating a means of returning to Earth unaware of why he was exiled in the first place and upon arriving back on Earth is re-exposed to the radiation and thus an extremely angry HULK arrives instead to start "World War HULK"
PITCH 2
HULK is tossed into a wormhole by THANOS and lands on "PLANET HULK" unconscious gets captured and Banner awakens in a cell motivated by the desperate need to get home and help save his friends and planet from Thanos and is forced to work together with HULK to get free and back to Earth, HULK's motivation being his anger and desire to smash Thanos.
Again we get to explore the complex relationship between Banner and HULK, we get to see Banner's genius at work under pressure and we get to see HULK tossed into an alien gladiator arena. WIN, WIN and WIN...
