How can you not love Mickey Rourke? While talking to the UK's Daily Express, Robert Downey Jr(Who plays Tony Start in Iron Man 2..in case you weren't aware!) revealed to them animal lover Rourke's preferred method for getting into his heavier scenes in the upcoming Iron Man sequel...

SOME actors take a gruelling method acting route to prepare for gritty roles, other hardened thesps opt for a menthol stick to help provoke tears but for Mickey Rourke, all he needed was a photo of his dead pet.
Sherlock Holmes star Robert Downey Jr, 45, was baffled by the acting methods used by Oscar-nominated Rourke while working with him on Iron Man 2.

“He would have someone holding pictures of recently deceased pets off camera to make him feel sad or whatever for a scene,” says Robert. “It was all serious stuff. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

I'm sure Rourke's dog Loki who died last year was the pooch in question.

So, there you go. Thats it. Thats the article. I just thought it was sweet alright! [frick] OFF!

Is it me or is there something ironic about that dog's name?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't his dog also on the set and in the movie, "Once Upon A Time In Mexico" (The third installment of the Robert Rodrigus El'Mariachi trilogy starring Johnny Depp and Antonio Bandaras)

You know what I mean? Somebody needs to do some research on that.

Damn, I feel sorry for the guy - I read about how upset he was when the dog died at the time but if he used that to make his Iron Man 2 performance even better, then I guess that's great for us! RIP Loki. :P

Eph, I never made it to the end of that steaming pile of miserable cinematic shite so I couldn't tell ya!

Some people don't feel the same but when a dog dies its a frakkin heartbreaker. I haven't had the heart to get another one after my last pooch passed on.

Lawrence Olivier would agree with you! I dunno, I get what your saying but in fairness, printing and acting are not exactly the same thing. Acting deals with tapping into emotions. Some find it easier to go method, and there is no denying it produces results, unless you think the likes of Marlon Brando and Dustin Hoffman weren't/aren't that good at what they do.

Evil40, apparently then you don't quite understand the field. That's like saying, "If you can draw then you don't need references! Otherwise you can't be that good." Same thing, different job. Leonard da Vinci used references all the time, apparently by your thought process da Vinci sucks.

Actors need motivation sometimes to help push the emotion further and make it more believable otherwise we'll just get a shit ton of Keanu Reeves.

@evil40 i really dont understand how you can relate printing to acting.. theres o right or wrong way to do acting. Its art technically. Thats like wondering why band need inspiration. every actor is different jsut as every person is different, for instance you and I.. Because i have no idea how you cant see the need to spark emotions when digging into their roles

That's a shame, I couldn't bare the thought of my dog dying. Loki's a cool name too. And hey if it gets the job done then it's fine by me, every actor has his own methods to get into character whether people do decide to do some method acting or it's research or they just read the script (keanu reeves).

But the point is, if the end justifies the means and they give a great performance then what does it matter how they go about it? Some actors work better using method, some don't. I don't know why, and I don't really care! You may think Rourke is a tool but imo he is a great actor that has given some damn fine performances.

He may have! I know he spent time in a Russian prison for Whiplash..maybe he hung around bars, picking fights and drinking like a fish for Marv..in fact, I'm sure he did:) Also check out the Wrestler..he got pretty deep into that role, worked out with real wrestlers, did a lot of his own stunts..it paid of.

blankofthedead - 4/12/2010, 11:43 PM
@evil40- look up the shit ledger did to get into his role... could be the reason he was on enough shit to eventualy die.. a lot of roles] people cant relate to because its too far out of their element. Actors are jsut people, so how do you play crazy if youve never been crazy, its just a matter of understanding the role so he can give it his all.. and I really dont see how anyhting hes done makes him a tool
