IRON MAN 3: Shane Black On Pepper Potts/Killian Deleted Sex Scene, Tony Using A Gun & More

This past Tuesday, director Shane Black and screenwriter Drew Pearce, discussed Iron Man 3 at the Los Angeles Film School. They chatted about a scraped sex scene between Killian and Pepper, as well as Tony's use of a firearm, and the Ten Rings.

Last May, Black and Pearce on an Empire podcast, they discussed a scene that was cut from the film, that would've involved a sex scene between Gwyneth Paltrow's Pepper Potts and Guy Pearce's Aldrich Killian. During Tuesday's event at the Los Angeles Film School Black expounded on that scraped idea. The original plan was to have Aldrich subject Pepper Potts to extremis, which in turn would create a sexual connection between the two. There tryst would be recorded and then broadcast while Tony is shopping for goods to make homemade weapons.
"I liked this notion that when they were juiced, they became this preternatural, proto-superhumans, that they developed this pheromonal appeal to people around them," Black said. "That it was such a draw that he would actually steal Tony Stark's woman, pheromonally."

"The second-to-last draft, before we started filming, there was still this idea that Pepper ended up having sex with Killian, and then he broadcast the sex tape in Home Depot," Pearce said. "Oddly, Marvel, not so keen."

Black also commented on a controversy, that I didn't know was a controversy: Tony using a gun? Apparently that irked some fans. I don't know why, but that seems pretty nit-picky.
"I don't give a shit about how many times Tony Stark pulls a trigger on a gun," he said, bluntly. "Marvel can rein me in all they want, but I'm not going to go to Marvel and say, 'How can I make your hero less realistic and more heroic so it suits Disney's needs?' That's not my job."

Lastly, Black and Pearce were asked about the Trevor/Mandarin twist, as the moderator approached the possibility of a “trick within a trick” scenario in which Trevor really does end up as the Mandarin.
"Is it really worth it?" Black asked in reply. "I think there's definitely evidence in the Marvel Universe the Ten Rings are a real organization that were co-opted by Killian," Pearce added. "What that means is out there, and whether Trevor has anything to do with that, we may never know. Or maybe we will."

Marvel Studios’ “Iron Man 3″ pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Iron Man 3 was directed by Shane Black, from a screenplay written by Drew Pearce. The film opened in theaters May 3, 2013. It stars: Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark), Gwyneth Paltrow (Virginia Potts), Don Cheadle (Col. James Rhodes), and Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin.

I find it funny how Killian's plan was all because he was butthurt that Tony choose to spend New Years Eve in a room with a beautiful woman instead of meeting Killain on the roof to talk business.

Like how can you be mad at Tony for that?

Killain ordered Maya to Tony's house, Killain orders Tony's house to be shot down, Killain orders his soldiers after Tony in what Nashville?, Killain steals the Iron Patriot suit, Killain uses Extremist on Pepper.

What part of his plan wasn't revenge against Tony?

That would have been so [frick]ed up. Shane Black seemed like the right man for the job at the start but when he started bringing these kind of ideas to the table they should have fired him. What does this family adventure film need? Hypnosis-Rape!

So 10 Rings is real and was lead by Killian. This is my problem. This is like if we found out Scarecrow was the leader of the League of Shadows in Begins.

Killain is a terrorist now.

@Levi, there were two Ten Rings organization. The one in he first Iron Man was the real organization, but in Iron Man 3, that was the fake one even though the real organization was taken out a while back.
And the Pepper/Killian sex scene is unnecessary.
Invictor
Invictor - 9/19/2013, 12:25 PM
The Ten Rings was an organization in the Middle East that were actually active. Tony Stark would've already been dead if the Ten Rings was an actual organization of Aldrich Killian when they captured Tony in the first one.

Then again, I bet everyone would have still been joking around, like when Tony thought Pepper was being tortured / dead.

@PantherX, agreed. Captain America fought in the war and he was armed just like every other soldier and it should be okay for Tony Stark to be armed, he makes weapons.

Sex tape? Jesus... This film was screwed from the start... The trailers had so much potential made me think this would be Marvel's Dark Knight, but they shot themselves in the foot with the twist and comedy and just bled over audiences...

Wrong GothamRising

The 10 Rings were in Iron Man 2. A member gave Whiplash tickets to the race. In the credits, it said the actor who played him played a 10 Rings member.

What do I think blackandyellow? I will be taking my fandom to the Steelers. I'm getting tired of losing. Trading Trent? Are you retarded? Also suck for Manziel? I rather have Tim Tebow as the QB than that POS pussy ass egotistic [frick]tard Johnny. [frick]ing hack QB. And I don't even like Teblow.

Shit is getting old.
Invictor
Invictor - 9/19/2013, 12:50 PM
@Levi, regardless, the organization was still taken out by Iron Man before the events of Iron Man 2, there could still be members left, but they most likely went into hiding.

You should read this, it explains everything:

The biggest mistake Marvel made with this film was letting Shane Black near the project. He tried to make IM3 into a buddy-cop 80's movie and failed hard in the process.

i dont know why a lot of you guys are trashing the movie. it was dark and light. maybe too light at times but its definitely a great take on the character. it propels tony's personal universe forward. i wish there was more war machine in the film and didnt really care for the paint job, but it was a really solid film. i honestly wish favreau directed it and shane black just wrote it. it would have fit more tonally to the other two movies. and the christmas backdrop in this film wasnt really the greatest idea in my opinion. i know thats shane blacks calling card, but still it wasnt relevant to the plot. however it does make the MCU seem a bit more realistic. they have seasons. not everyday is always bright and clear.
