IRON MAN Star Terrence Howard Makes It Clear That An MCU Return Isn't Going To Happen

Terrence Howard walked away from the Marvel Cinematic Universe when Marvel Studios suggested cutting his pay for Iron Man 2 and the actor has now made his feelings about the comic book universe clear...

Because he was considered a more bankable star at the time, Marvel Studios actually paid Terrence Howard more for his role in Iron Man than they did lead star Robert Downey Jr. Unfortunately, his stint as Colonel James Rhodes didn't last particularly long because when his demands weren't met for the follow-up, he walked away from the franchise and Don Cheadle later ended up replacing the actor.

During a recent interview, Howard was asked about a possible return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and he didn't shy away from making his feelings clear. "You know what’s so funny? Even though I love Don Cheadle so much and I love what he’s done, I still hear a lot of fans asking, am I going to come back and be War Machine," Howard claimed. "Am I going to come back and be War Machine? I think they could have a huge franchise off of it, but f**k ’em." So, that's very loud and clear no from him!

While the actor clearly believes that his return to the role of War Machine would spawn a new franchise, it's unlikely Marvel would want him back, especially as Cheadle is doing such a great job!

Eh. Not like the MCU really needs him anyway.

Why are we getting an article and even commentary from T.H. on a role that was once played a decade ago? lol

I suppose I should make it clear that the vast majority of MCU fans could care less..

@tripttwe - I imagine he's got a touch of 'Legend in his own Mind' syndrome and imagines they want him back. The rest of us, er no thanks...

How would he even come back? would he eat a snicker and feel like his own self again or something?

His return wouldn't make any sense unless he'd play some other character. But we all know this will never happen so who cares.

That idiots been smoking too much weed, how he was paid more than RDJ astounds EVEN with the previous RDJ demons taken in to account. I'm not a massive fan of Don Cheadle, he's not really an 'army type' by his acting but at least the man saw a good role, took it and applied himself rather than play the greed train. RDJ owned the Iron Man movie, his acting took the fans in to Tony Stark, brilliant choice, TH should have sucked it up and just got on with it knowing he was an an expanding franchise..

As for the people asking him to return to WM, really, I think he may be having paranoia related reactions to the weed..

@Mclane - Him and Wesley Snipes, two arseholes I have no time for these days, ego the size of buildings, Snipes, great as Blade, hats of to him for that, Blade II er not so good and the rest so so but to know that MF was sitting in his trailer [frick]ing off all the people around him trying to make the film so he could fry his brain, the man is a tool..

@Mclane - at the time of release howard was a bigger name that downey. And his role was significantly bigger than what it ultimately was. Not to mention given rdjs history they werent too pleased having him be the lead here so they were probably hoping that howard could end up being iron mans replacement down the line like in the comics. Thats why he was paid more.

He's so full of himself, The MCU doesn't need him. Who cares.

@Doomsday8888 - Kind of a catch-22. He asked for "too much" money when Ike was pinching pennies and the first movie did pretty well. And it's only after he's gone that the movies are making billions of dollars and Feige is making it rain on the actors who stick around after their contract.

I'd be butthurt, too. He played that one wrong. If he'd stuck around at a lower salary, he'd be in a position now to potentially see the big bucks.

That said, I prefer Cheadle by a wide margin and wish someone would do an edit of Iron Man 1 with Cheadle as Rhodey, using computer magics.

@Spock0Clock - well said. I think people really underestimate how much impact I've and his lackeys had in the first two mcu pages. The reason the Mcu was even good back then was despite one not because of him.
