With Disney gearing up for a big John Carter promotion this week (click for new images HERE, and for a brand new poster click HERE), the Academy Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino, who scored films such as Super 8, 50/50, The Incredibles, Up and more, recently talked to Crave Online about the sound of Andrew Staton's big screen adaptation and what can we expect.

"Hopefully it sounds like Barsoom (which is Martian for Mars). Hopefully it sounds like the epic, massive story that it is. That’s really what we want. This is going to be big, epic, romantic, frightening and also emotional. It was one of those things when you hear of a film being made and you go, “Well, I have to do that.” That was one of those ones. I’m a huge fan of Andrew Stanton, and while I’ve known him for many years we’ve never worked together in that capacity."

And he also mentions how even though this is Stanton's first live-ation film, it really doens't feel like that:

"I just had such a great time working with him, and I’m really proud of what he’s done on his first live-action film. Which actually, the same for Brad Bird. You know, his first live-action film Mission: Impossible [Ghost Protocol]... You would never know that these guys had never made a live-action film before by watching these movies. You would think that they had done a hundred of them. It’s really impressive, and I think their years at Pixar have really prepped them for this."

Everything I've seen from this film looks great to me. From the previous interviews and reports it seems that this film is based only on the first book in BARSOOM series by Edgar Rice Burroughs, called A Princess of Mars. It will definitely be interesting to see the whole story on the big screen, especially with Andrew Staton directing his first live-action film. The new trailer will be revealed this week, so stay tuned.

@Nailbiter: Star Trek yes, Transformers no. He did a lot of other films too. I've written some of them down in the article.

Giacchino is most similar to John Williams, not so much for his style as for his ability to weave character themes together. I'd hoped he would get THE AVENGERS (and before that, CAPTAIN AMERICA), but I'm guessing he was too expensive for the notoriously thrifty Marvel, or he was already overbooked.

And oh yeah, his music for all 6 seasons of LOST stands supreme.

^^^^ Especially the song "Moving On." One of the greatest ones from LOST.
