THE WIRE Star Dominic West Talks About His Training For JOHN CARTER
Dominic West, best known for his role in HBO drama series The Wire, talks about his sword training for Andrew Stanton-directed film John Carter, a science fiction epic based on the classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
Talking to MSN Movies UK, actor Dominic West, who is best known for his role as Detective Jimmy McNulty in the critically acclaimed HBO drama series The Wire, shared some info on his training and fights for Andrew Stanton's science fiction epic John Carter.
"I did quite a bit for fights, we did some big fights and so I did quite a lot of that and I'll be interested to see how that comes out because they were quite elaborate fights with swords."
West says that he was a little bit confused with the story of the novel, which features an American Civil War veteran, captain John Carter, who becomes mysteriously paralyzed and transported to Mars (Barsoom):
"It's sci-fi and I think it's set in the future, well it's set all over the place, but it starts off as a western and goes into a huge sci-fi thing. So we're fighting with swords and flying huge ancient tall ships. So it's all a sort of mish-mash of styles and ages. I think it will be great."
In the film, West plays Sab Than, Prince of Zodanga.
Along Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins and Willem Dafoe, the rest of the cast includes Mark Strong, Bryan Cranston, James Purefoy, Dominic West, Thomas Haden Church and Ciarán Hinds. John Carter is set to hit theatres on March 9, 2012!
