John Carter is an adaption of Edgar Rice Burroughs' timeless "A Princess of Mars." John Carter is played by Friday Night Light's Taylor Kitsch, who is a Civil War veteran transported to Mars. The plot of the movie centers on him being Mars savior and rescuing the princess, played by Lynn Collins. This film is meant to be the first of a trilogy so expect Disney to make a big marketing push in order to make sure this movie gets off to a good start.

"I knew of Stanton, of course, and I was a huge fan," Kitsch says. "He was a big fan of Riggins, my 'Friday Night Lights' character, so right away we kind of pushed each other because we were so excited about just meeting one another."

John Carter starring Taylor Kitsch (John Carter), Lily Collins (the Martian princess Dejah Thoris), and Willem Dafoe (alien warrior Tars Tarkas). is set to hit theatres on March 9, 2012!

Great find nail! I have been following this films progress since I first heard about it and everything about it looks fantastic. This is either going to be a huge surprise to many people or it's going to be a crying shame if it slips through the cracks because I have a feeling it's going to be great.

"An instant classic" (has there ever been a more contradictory phrase?)
"Hurry, before it goes back in the vault" (Yes, threaten us with unavailability)
The Disney hype begins!

i could see this being the next star wars or harry potter. Mars' civilizations look well thought out. This could be really good or really bad, kinda like how The Last Airbender sounded good for a movie in theory, but just absolutely bombed.

The concepts are better than I had expected, but I agree that I would have been much happier if the Tharks were built more like they were described in the book. They are too lanky here, and the tusks out of the sides of the face make them look too friendly. :(
