Joaquin Phoenix Laughs Maniacally As Filming Gets Underway On His Standalone JOKER Movie

Following that foreboding first photo, the first set pics & video from WB's standalone Joker movie have made their way online featuring another look at Joaquin Phoenix as the future Clown Prince of Crime.

After catching a first look at 3x Academy Award-nominee Joaquin Phoenix as "Arthur" earlier today, Just Jared has confirmed that principal photography has officially commenced on Todd Phillips' upcoming Joker standalone movie by sharing some intriguing new set photos.

The photos, which you can view at the link below, aren't particularly revealing as we see Phoenix interact with another actor that's dressed as a clown. He's also pictured laughing quite maniacally after he presumably tells the clown a joke - something that doesn't seem to go over well with his audience. The images also confirm the presence of an iconic location from the comics as the pair stand in front of a building that has "Amusement Mile" painted on the side.

In addition to Phoenix (Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot), the cast also features Primetime Emmy-nominee Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2), Golden Globe-winner Frances Conroy (American Horror Story), Marc Maron (GLOW), Josh Pais (Ray Donovan), and 2x Academy Award-winner Robert De Niro (The Irishman).

@Hemsey - @Benjamitesandwich I mean an original character. Giving joker a definitive origin story is weird to me.

I feel like this Is an original film idea with the joker name attached for marketability but that's just me

@MyCoolYoung - Who says its definitive? Everyones complaining that he shouldnt have an origin story but praise The Killing Joke, which is an origin story. Who's to say the movie wont have an unreliable narrator just like The Killing Joke? No where have they said this is a "definitive origin story"

@Himura - the killing joke was trash, honestly. Not for the origins though. The most interesting part about Joker is his relationship to batman

@MyCoolYoung - I know, i always loved the ambiguity of the jokers origin.

@MyCoolYoung - People always say they don't want Joker origins...

Yet everyone loves Batman 89 and The Killing Joke.

@MyCoolYoung -
Joker has many origin stories. This is one more, which will borrow elements from those we've seen. It'll be okay.
MyCoolYoung
MyCoolYoung - 9/16/2018, 5:14 PM
@Nightwing1015 - which is ok for some even though neither is canon.

The killing joke is still, at its core, about batman and jokers strange relationship in which it reached a boiling point where batman may or may not have broke his no kill rule.

@Battabing - it's just a movie it'll always be ok my boy. A movie I have not even the slightest bit of interest in. That's my opinion and I'm not forcing that upon anyone

Omega - 9/16/2018, 11:58 PM
@MyCoolYoung - Killing Joke IS canon, first it was just one time story, but then they changed it.Barbara Gordon was after the events on the wheelchair. And in many comics they bringing those events back.

MyCoolYoung - 9/17/2018, 12:27 AM
@Omega - I'm happy you like it and I'm happy you're excited to see the movie. Me on the other hand will not be seeing this and am not intrested in a joker movie without the joker batman dynamic. That's my opinion and its staying the same

@MyCoolYoung - What makes you say the Killing Joke is trash? I've never heard a Batman fan say that. I assume you're a Batman fan considering why you're not supporting this movie. A Joker film without Batman seems pointless and unnecessary. Phoenix may do really well but without Batman his Joker doesn't make much sense. Back to Killing Joke though, you do mean the comic and not the animated film is trash, right? I know the movie sucked. They added in the Batman/Batgirl sex scene that was retarded. Adding that was worse than making a Joker solo film with no Batman at all.
MyCoolYoung
MyCoolYoung - 9/17/2018, 2:06 PM
@BullyFU - the movie trash the graphic novel wasn't. I just said that because I was tired of them lol
BullyFU
BullyFU - 9/18/2018, 6:34 PM
@MyCoolYoung - Ok, I agree 100%. The movie was beyond garbage. The comic is one of the best books ever, not just Batman or DC. It came out way before it's time also. Comics seem to have been about a decade ahead of other mediums like TV & Film by releasing great work in the 80's and early 90's while TV didn't pick up until the late 2000's and film has always been good to a certain degree but didn't get serious and gritty until the 2000's, IMO. Of course there were exceptions but all studios went that way post 9/11.
