The New Orleans based agency Talazac Casting which has been responsible finding extras for several productions, including Meet the Spartans and All the Kings Men, is looking for "background extras, native American extras or those who may have a Native American look, along with extras who are well-experienced at riding a horse."

If you are interested you should e-mail a photo, contact information and resume to

[email protected].

Those who are accepted will be PAID!

The upcoming film Jonah Hex is based on the disfigured bounty hunter that was introduced in the early 1970s revival of the DC Comics series "All-Star Western," later retitled "Weird Western Tales." He was eventually spun off into his own self-titled series and, later, into other comic-book incarnations that included time travel and battles with the undead.

The fim is directed by Jimmy Hayward (Horton Hears a Who), Jonah Hex will also star John Malkovich and Megan Fox.

Well all of you people who are Native American, or have Native American blood head on down to New Orleans like I would, if my 1/10 Cherokee showed through that is.

Grif just because you dont like Hex there are lots of people that are dying for this movie..im glad that the lesser known titles are being adapted..theres only so many formulaic "Boyscout" movies you can make before it gets stale

Also, Punisher, Street Fighter and Spirit made no money because they were shit, this may not be..people will see a good movie, it might not bust any blocks but who cares? I wouldnt care if it made nothing as long as i get to see a good movie

And hey no reason to jump on grif, he's got his opinion like we do.

True, but when his opinion is that he hopes a movie bombs just so that they can get back to focusing on stuff HE wants to see..hes going to get my opinion right back at him isnt he!

i think this film needs to be in the hands of a 'pulp-cult' director. i'm thinking the look and feel of brandon lee's CROW, or even DARK CITY, in the West with good ol' Hex!

grif, it sounds to me like your idea of a better movie means a bigger name. i personally think the opposite. superman is overrated, i personally hate him in all incarnations. i actually think the best superman-related incarnation is superman returns, and that movie sucked.

Hawk, quick question...are you sending the information we sent in, or does it go to Talazac directly?
THEHAWK
THEHAWK - 3/21/2009, 10:48 PM
@David, No that is Talazac's E mail address for this, I am in no way affiliated with the firm or any of it's known associates or subsidiaries. I am merely relaying this information to the site ComicBookMovies.com to inform people who are eligible for the positions availible. That is the address the Times had on their site. Well I wish you luck, I would apply myself if I had not moved after Katrina happened.

HAWK out.

@ Killian. They have yet to announce filming locations. But since Talazac casts for films that are usually filmed out of New Orleans, so its a good bet that some of it will be in New Orleans, but again I'm not sure. I do know that they will be scouting for locations in early April to begin filming.

It funny how the Cherokee nation is just letting all cultures into there tribe, and accepting anybody who wants too be native when they dont even know what being native is!?..I guess people settle for what there told and join in on the badwaggon....little off topic information

Grif, be happy WARNERS are making any DC movies!!! More the better!!! Im not much of a HEX fan but id love to see this movie!!! It'll cater for WESTERN fans too, as well ass ppl that like the supernatural!!! Oh an i like WAR ZONE but hated the ending! Killing MICRO in his 1st movie screen appearance was a joke, oh and JIGSAW too!!! Also it was lame how the punisher task force got FRANK with two guys, well one an a half lol!!! Great PUNISHER action!!!! Lame a$$ story!!! Could've been sooooo much better!!! I'm a huge PUNISHER fan,if you havn't noticed lol, heh heh! I think its time PUNISHER came to the small screen!!! Live action! Darker than BLADE, it would be a ratings winner!!! ; ) Can't wait for HEX!! HEX has gotta be a R-RATED movie though!
CrookedJaw
CrookedJaw - 3/22/2009, 10:10 AM
alright, thanks HAWK...and Minotauro, that's not really true...if you're truly part of a native american tribe, and can trace your lineage back, then the government recognizes you, and you get some sort of government compensation...my great grandmother was part of a native tribe (not cherokee) and my grandmother, mother, me, and my siblings are reognized as native americans...it's not some simple bandwagon...their are strict rules
Killian
Killian - 3/22/2009, 10:28 AM
@Hawk I was just wondering where in the area looks like "old west". I'm not familiar with Hex and its scenery.

I've heard about some dirty politics with one of our local tribes. They will accept people who aren't even Indian into the tribe just to get more members so they get more federal help. Plus the money stays with the elite few.

@ Davidzuck - I get your opinion!..bandwaggon by which I mean everbody seems to have Native ancestry in their blood..and revealently cherokee nations accepts anybody from any infromation their given!?..I dont got alot of sources too that which the government compensates it, but I can take your word for it...

Grif your worse than a little girl when it comes to complaining and whining. All you do is bitch about everything. Why dont you go join a "sand in my jiner forum". You be a star there. The punisher failed because it had a crap ass director and the villians were more like the three stooges than the ruthless scum bags that frank usually hunts down. Street fighter failed because they changed the story around so they could evolve it around some dumb ass side character(yes, chun li is not the main character nor was she ever meant to be) insead of using the original story that evolves around ryu and ken. In my opinion the spirit wasnt even a good comic, so you shouldnt expect it to be a good movie(so sick of wire fighting, jesus what happened to stuntmen and talented fighting). The main problem with turning a comic to a movie is that every director, writer, and actor thinks there ideas are better than the original, when there not. Not to mention that most of these people havent read any of the comics or "know" the characters like the readers do.

i dont know much about this charactor, im sure it would be good film, but really the real supernatural western that need to be made is steven kings dark tower.

and if they did, they better get it right or heads will roll.

@ Minotauro. I don't take offense at what you said. I am proud of my heritage. I make my own way, and try to avoid government entanglements. I have Cherokee on my dad's side. That is way on down the line because my ancestor was one of the first english to encounter that Cherokee tribe. After the Revoltion he and a group of people moved near the Cherokee, and eventually he married one.

I am proud of my heritage, I have gone throgh great pains to trace my family back nearly 600 years.

@ Killian, I'm not sure, it is only a hunch that some of it will be in N.O. I just know that the company often casts for local productions. If it is an origin story, it might show him in the Civil War, if I remember correctly there was a rather large plantation home just out of town, can't remember the name. Maybe there will be a battle there or something IDK.

HAWK out.

Jonah Hex is a great character, problem is, that is about as far as it goes. So much of his story lines tend to be experimentation with the character rather than solid plot. Many of the Vertigo imprint Hex stories read more like Hellboy comics (which isn't necessarily a bad thing), they just kinda bounce willy nilly across his timeline.

In my opinion this gives the writers a very open ended starting point for a script.

With Josh Brolin (I'm not a huge fan, but I recognize his talent) and John Malkovich on board, I think it could be a very awesome movie. Whether they go with his traditional Western background, or some of the more gritty Weird West tales.

Just please stay away from the time travel story arc. Blech.

As far as i know, Tony DeZuniga a Filipino comic artist who co-created Jonah Hex with John Albano, will somewhat supervise the filming of this movie...it was on the news here in the Philippines weeks ago...

I do Featured Extra work as well as Background Extra work here in Louisiana. I have horseback riding experience as well as being part Native American but havn't heard back from the company doing the film. It's still listed on Craig's List as of this morning 3/23/09. I was just wondering when they plan on actually doing the Filming ?

Glad to hear Jonah Hex is headed for the movies.
I think it has potential.
I have a Jonah Hex comic collection.
Gottem all, one or more copies each, since his first appearance in All Star Westerns, then Weird Western Tales, and most of his cameo appearances in JLA, etc., weirder tales still, and the "Jonah Hex" series, "Hex" series, then "Jonah Hex" revived in 2006 for the current series ...
Too bad Clint Eastwood is getting too long in the tooth for a prime Jonah Hex.
Steve McQueen, as Josh Randall, bounty hunter, and
Eastwood in the spaghetti westerns' Man With No Name, Hang'em High, etc., undoubtedly gave some inspiration to Jonah Hex.
And Jonah undoubtedly gave some inspiration to Josey Wales.

Steve McQueen is long gone, but maybe Clint will do the sequel, reminiscing with some flashbacks from the Bounty Hunter Retirement Home.
Josh Brolin is a good pick for the role.
I approve.

Steve McQueen as Josh Randall the bounty hunter in WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE, started up in 1958, was an ex-confederate soldier.
He was blond and wore a smoke-brown/gray "revenger-style" stetson, without the cavalry tassles that Jonah hex has on his similar hat.
He was a squeaky-clean-cut, straight arrow, morally unambiguous hero.
The Eastwood "Man With No Name," and Good,Bad, and Ugly characters involved much anti-hero ambiguity and a messier world in the mid to late 1960's.

Jonah Hex seems to have been inspired by a blend of these characters.

"Josey Wales" of 1976 movie production date probably got much inspiration from Jonah Hex comics. Did the author Forrest Carter ever admit it in print?

Jonah Hex has roots in the 1950s and he has inspired some mainstream Hollywood influences in the 1970's, and he deserves his own movie ... and many more.
