Judge Dredd Reboot Coming Up

Judge Dredd Reboot Coming Up

Yes 2000AD fans can rejoice in the news that DNA films are producing another (we hope proper!) Judge Dredd movie in 2009. DNA films also produced "Sunshine" and "28 weeks later" so its in good hands...

Jason Kingsley, CEO and Creative Director said, ‘We can’t give away too many details at this point, but we’re looking forward to working with DNA Films to bring Judge Dredd back to the big screen.’

I loved Dredd in the 200AD comic and was exited about the first movie..even though Stallone was playing Dredd, i thought he might just pull it off..besides, theres no way he will take his helmet off anyway..right? Well we all know how that turned out but i have confidence nobodys going to make the same shitty movie twice!

Anyway, whoever plays the violent bastard this time around will hopefully be covered from the nose up, so its gonna have to be someone without alot of vanity. Big name stars out the window then! How do i know Jason Stathams name is going to get mentioned here

ah well, just as long as Rob Schneider comes nowhere [frick]ing near it.

I don't know but, that production company loves to put Cillian ?Murphy in it's films. I don't know what he could play but he's a pretty good actor. 28 Days Later, Sunshine, and Batman Begins, he played a cool role in all those films.

Jason Statham would be awesome but I am never convinced by convinced by his Western Accent. Thomas Jane would be ideal in this mans opinion.

i love cillian murphy but no way hes right for Dredd..mickey rourkes a good one...and thomas jane too. Clint eastwood a few years ago would have been perfect.

This is the best news i've had all month! I had to create an account just to comment on this! And some of the names being bandied about are great. Tom Jane would be intensely awesome! Hell you COULD put in clint Eastwood now if they did a current storyline. since the comic ages in realtime dredd's pushin 65. i'm gunna throw my vote again for tom jane. and cillian murphy would make a very suitable judge death!

I dont think Statham would be a good choice... his american accent sucks, and he's doing too many transporter movies...

Tom Jane would be good as would Hugh Jackman.
It's gonna be hard getting an A-lister to keep that helmet on.

I would rather they just cast an unkown and not show us what the actor looked like... i know it's probably not possible but wouldnt it be cool to watch the movie and still be left wondering what he looks like under that helmet? just like the comics.
in fact... they should cast the stig from top gear!

Unfortuately, while I love Mickey, I think he should stay away. Comic movies are pretty much always hit or miss, and a man in the middle of a comeback shouldn't be taking risks like this.

Personally, I think Bruce Willis or Jason could be great.

I totally disagree with Jason Statham. That Ray Stevenson dude could do it. If you've seen John Cena, if he got the attitude he has the right chin and build for it.

Yeah, but most wrestlers can't act, and from what I've seen, Mr. Cena is absolutely no exception.

John cena is a talent vaccume! i hope he never disgraces my movie screen again.

im not sure if i was too clear in the article, but i was being sarcastic when i mentioned Jason Statham, hes everywere these days and i hate his bald miserable head.

i really think no matter how faithful the next movie is, the helmet will probably come off..at least once. they do have to cater for the average joe aswell.

MasterExploder
MasterExploder - 12/21/2008, 8:58 PM
the first one was a good time. if you like goofy movies. and i do. but a movie truly based on the source material. as every movie of this genre should be. would kick ass on whole new levels.

and the entire soundtrack should be done by anthrax.

with simon pegg cast as comic relief.

cuz theyd prob do that for free.

ok if i had never read a Judge Dredd comic i would have found the stallone movie mediocre..at best! but i had so i found it to be an abomonation. I dont mind alterations in the source material and realise things need to be adapted for the screen but other than the names of the characters NOTHING about that movie had anything to do with the comic

TheArrow - 12/22/2008, 8:03 AM
If he wouldnt take the helmet/mask off all movie someone like Justin Hartley would be okay, got the chin, and I think he can play that attitude well.

If the helmet has to come off, I'd like Ray Park...

Okay, i never read a comic book of Judge Dredd even though the character interests me a lot. I know i'm gonna be hated for this one but, i loved the movie! In fact, it is my favorite Stalone movie ever! I loved his take on it. And Armand Assante's performance as the bad guy should have been recognised, he was nothing short of breath taking!!! The only problem i saw with that movie is Rob Schneider. He brought in "comic relief" when there was obviously none needed. I would've loved seeing a much more "serious" movie and can't wait for the reboot! As for the actor that should play him... Stevenson would be great and depending on his performance in the next Stalone movie, i'd see Dolph Lundgren pull it off. He's not that bad of an actor given the right director. Of course, a "sure bet" would be Clive Owen!!! Oh wait, no no, the best one for this role, IMO, would be Gerard Buttler!!!

nobody will hate you ..shaman! ..except me!! lol. hey each to their own. it just annoyed me. maybe without schneider i would have enjoyed it but it had him and thats that! ive never wanted a character to get his head blown off so much watching a movie
Shaman
Shaman - 12/22/2008, 6:46 PM
Seriously! The guys's goose was already cooked in the opening so why keep Schneider as a hostage? Throw him at Dredd from the 17th floor and make a run for it LOL. And Diane Lane was smokin hot, i LOVE her!!! And i've been in love with her since i saw her in that! I guess it has to do with the uniform LOL :P
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 12/22/2008, 8:14 PM
well if you love the lane then i suggest you watch a movie called unfaithfull...but keep the tissues handy.

..cos it very sad!! lol

I started thinking Thomas Jane would be too young...

Ron Pearlman would be perfect as dredd. surely Hellboy is finished as a franchise...
the guy is 6 foot plus.
his lower jaw is huge!
and he's so used to having his mug covered up in movies he probably would keep that helmet on all the way through.
Shaman
Shaman - 12/23/2008, 6:56 AM
LOLOL funny one Roar!!!

Oh twisted, you soooo got me with that one!!! Man if Pearlman does Judge Dredd, i'll go watch it like 10 times!!! He rocks and would be the best for the role!
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 12/23/2008, 9:11 AM
[frick] yeah! the pearlman is a great choice...i dont think ol hellboy is quite finished yet though, id say del toro will make one more. so if they ever made dredd vs hellboy!!

check out the dredd vs batman comics, theyr very good actually

Holy Crap... Ron Pearlman is perfect...

I enjoyed the hellboy movies, It just seems like Del-toro always has to fight get them done. I love how he stood by his choice for Pearlman no matter what the suits thought. Suppose after the upcoming hobbit movie he'll get a renewed "make what you want card"... then we'll hopefully get hellboys 3 & 4.

Yeah! that Dredd vs Batman saga was awesome. they truely dont get along them two LoL. man, i dont remember much from this one, I know what me last-minute self-X-mas gift is now.

They need to nab the engineers responsible for the Bat-Pod, anyone else think it was a Judge's Lawmaster the first time they saw it? And for the love of god, lets not have it fly this time.

Shaman, Dredd is an awesome comic series to get into, I stopped reading over 10 years ago so cant speak for i's current state but back then you could pick up and read from anywhere. just make sure you at least read the original judge death saga.
