According to Deadline.com, the new(hopefully good!) version of Dredd has found a director, a financier, and will be shopped at the Cannes Film Festival to try to find a distributor..oh, and it'll be 3D too..

As any fan of the Judger Dredd comic knows, Stallone's 1995 effort was ...lacking. Yeah I feel like being nice! So a lot of people were happy when it was announced that we would be seeing a new, more faithful version at some point. But the last we heard of it, the film was kinda stuck in Limbo with no one locked on board to bring it to the screen. Well now according to Mike Flemming over at Deadline thats all changed...

..Andrew Macdonald’s DNA Films has made a deal with India-based Reliance Big Entertainment to finance Judge Dredd, a 3D film that was scripted by Alex Garland, and will be directed by Pete Travis, best known for Vantage Point and Omagh. The film will be shopped at the[Cannes] festival, I hear.



This was expected to go through at Fox, so breath a sigh of relief all that think that studio is Satan's office space! Apparently the time to finalize the deal was up and they let it go for whatever reason. Pete Travis has directed 2 movies(Vantage Point and Endgame) and a few tv shows. I have only seen Vantage Point and thought it was meh, but lets hope he does a good job of bringing old stony face to us in a more violent, satirical, faithful manner. Garland's best known for scripting The Beach, but he also wrote the Danny Boyle-directed scifi film Sunshine. Apparently the film will be brought in at a budget of 50 million.

I really didn't feel like Stalone's Dredd lived up to the comic book. This is good news...aside from Fox.

I saw like the first 10 minutes of Vantage Point on Starz. Didn't seem that bad, maybe I'll watch it fully sometime. The writer gets a thumbs up for me for writing Sunshine (cough, Evans will be good, cough) :P

lol, Vantage Point. That is the only movie I ever saw in a theater that caused the audience to loudly and nearly unilaterally moan. On about the sixth jump back everyone just groaned, and then we all laughed at the shared sentiment. I don't think that was the effect Travis was going for in his direction, but it certainly made it a memorable cinema experience.

And i'm glad they're going to re-do Judge Dread. They got the wrong actors to be in that movie, and they didn't try to stick to the story at all.

Don't worry, Jack hasn't been officially chosen, just alluded to that he may take over from Jacob.

Shaman, well I hated him in it I must say, even without the slap in the face to the character which was nothing to do with him, he just wasn't convincing. But then I never think he is outside of playing Rocky! And Copland was good too.
