Denver Comic Con was going on recently, and Kal Urban of Dredd and Star Trek fame attended the event to greet fans of the comic book and science fiction genres, among others. Speaking of Dredd, the 2012 film was met with praise regardless of the low box office ($35,626,525 million worldwide versus its $50 million budget) that it has been difficult to get Dredd 2 off the ground, as either a film or even a Netflix series.
But at Denver Comic Con, Urban dropped the news on Dredd 2 is in development. He even added: "Dredd represented a failure in marketing. I saw the tracking of that film weeks before it came out and the fundamental problem was no one knew it was being released. Once it came out on DVD and it sold 750,000 copies in the first week alone in North America alone, it was very clear that the audience had discovered it."
Now, take this news with some salt in it. Development can mean a number of things: finding funding, script writers being hired, even just the interest being there instead of not, etc. There's also the question of whether it'll be a movie or a mini-series on Netflix or amazon, as even Urban suggested it could be. Point is, the sequel is at least being worked on, and that is enough to give fans a smile.
What do you guys think?
