Ben Affleck Explains His Executive Producer Role On JUSTICE LEAGUE
The fallout from Batman v Superman was huge, allowing for the creation of the DC Films Division, and it led to Ben Affleck being appointed as an EP on Justice League, but what does his role really mean?
Warner Bros. decided to make a bold move by promoting Ben Affleck to the position of executive producer on Zack Snyder's Justice League after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice failed to meet expectations both critically and at the box office. Many have been speculating as to what Affleck's role as an executive producer on the film means creatively, and thanks to Collider, we now know what Affleck's role as an executive producer extends beyond Justice League. “Why I’m an executive producer is that I’m directing one of the movies," revealed Affleck. "So there’s sort of this cross pollination of story and characters and I don’t want to give any of that stuff away, but it basically means that there are some things that might happen in my Batman that are affected by I mean, here we are in the police station in Gotham City. There’s a potential that something like this might exist in that story.”
Creating film universes involves collaboration on every front, and it looks like Affleck is making sure that the DC Film Universe doesn't interfere with his vision for the Dark Knight's future. The actor then went to explain the process of creating a cohesive film universe through a director-driven company. “So it’s a creative way that DC came up with of kind of being a filmmaker-driven company and entity and also making sure that the right hand knows what the left hand is doing and so that there’s collaboration and supervision. So that somebody doesn’t go sailing off, causing problems for your movie with their movie. You know, in a way, it’s also a kind of a courtesy. You know what they’re doing, one hand knows what the other is doing, and I get to weigh in on stuff that impacts the Batman stuff.” Affleck certainly doesn't want anyone stepping on his toes when creating his Batman standalone film.
