Guillermo del Toro States That DARK UNIVERSE Is Pushing Forward Despite Constantine Show

Guillermo del Toro has been talking about his planned Dark Universe movie for about a year now, but with the announcement that a Constantine TV series is in the works, del Toro's film has been in question.

Indeed, DC and Warner Brothers are on a tear lately, having recently set a Commissioner Gordon series in motion at FOX as well as a potential Arrow spin-off featuring the Flash on The CW.

Del Toro claims that Dark Universe (a.k.a. Justice League Dark) is still in the works despite the TV show that’s being developed for NBC.

"We talked about it at DC and Warners, and I feel confident that the two properties can exist at the same time,” he said. “I think that DC is trying to create a great universe of characters, and expand it and make it clear to the audience that it’s a landscape of characters, and not just one that’s dependent on one or two characters."

That said, Guillermo del Toro's Dark Universe doesn't seem to be moving that quickly. The filmmaker assured that they're still writing the film but there is not a full script yet. "But it’s still active," he also stated.

@MAC

You do realize that Del Toro has a billion projects in the works right? If they picked him for anything its gonna be delayed for God knows how long like JLD probably will be. You want a guy like that to work on something that needs to be done on schedule? I wouldn't even with his all his talent and skill.

@MAC

I think he probably could but I wouldn't put him on anything big, I just think he works better with smaller scale things and trying to put him on some big triple A block buster doesn't seem like a good fit with his style.

I know he did Pacific Rim which was a blockbuster with a huge ass budget but that film didn't do well financially and personally I wasn't a fan of it (like many people) so I doubt hes ever gonna get a big named superhero to work with.

Del Toro has a good grasp of the macabre, it would be great to see a JLD film by him.

Constantine on NBC? Crud. Should be on cable. Being on NBC will make it... watered down.

Also, we need to clone del Toro already, and get all of these projects done.

Charlie Hunnam would be great for John Constantine. But I hope it will take place in it's own universe. No interaction with MOS please.

I would've been worried about it being on NBC if it weren't for Hannibal. That show is amazing, and isn't watered down at all. Very dark and gory.

If Guillermo truly believes that, I happen to have a bridge in Brooklyn he might be interested in purchasing.

I really hope this movie gets made. I would prefer it over the other Justice League movie. Though I want both I think JLD could really be interesting if done right. It would also be great for the general pubic to get to know more of the DC Universe. Plus I prefer Zatanna over Wonder Woman too.

Ewan McGregor for a Constantine movie. Nobody for a Constantine TV series. Maybe a BBC miniseries.

Nice. I like how Del Toro is still fixating his attention on Justice League Dark. Even though he's in the process of developing a Constantine tv show.

I am hyped.
