Titan Books has unveiled the cover for Justice League: The Art of the Film and while it's not quite up there with what we get from Marvel Studios' concept artists, there's no denying that this is a great new look at the team. As a bonus, we even get to see Superman alongside his fellow heroes, something which is long overdue considering the fact he's been left out of all the official stills and posters.

Inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans – Aquaman, Cyborg, and The Flash – to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions. Packed with stunning concept art, sketches, costume detail, stills, and behind-the-scenes shots from the set, this book is an invaluable insight into the world of Justice League.

Don't get any big ideas about scouring the book for spoilers, though, as it's been confirmed that this won't be released until November 21st, foir days after Justice League hits theaters. Warner Bros. is clearly determined to keep the movie's biggest secrets under wraps, something which probably shouldn't come as too much of a surprise seeing as Superman's return is such a compelling mystery.

Whoever painted that needs to go back and study anatomy again. Superman's head looks comically small compared to his body and vice versa.

@Boyle360 - sometimes artists do bad proportions on purpose (like a certain guy with a fear of feet)

I wonder if that's what is going on here

@BloodyBed -

I expect that the concept art for a drawing of the team together matters little in regards to actors facial features. It is only the heights and costumes that are the focus in the concept art here.

In the last few weeks my hype for JL has been steadily building. The onesheet ensemble poster (my wallpaper for the last however many months now), then the character portraits which are beautiful imo, only critic being Cyborg's could use some work and obviously Superman's absence (which I totally understand), but damn do I want to see a white background / black suit in the same style as the other members.

While I get people's frustration with Superman's a sense in the first JL movie ever, (at least marketing wise), I think it's a pretty cool premise they've got; the JL forms BECAUSE of Superman, because of his sacrifice the others are inspired!

Pls don't let me down like BvS did; though overtime I've began to appreciate it a little (somewhat as a guilty pleasure).

I like the feel of it, most artists who draw concept art sometimes have a very particular style and do only one thing (costumes, backgrounds, weapons, buildings, aliens…), plus they rush a lot of it, seeing as it's only submitted to their boss for a quick "Less this, more that", and then it goes to the garbage bin and the process starts again. Which is probably why Batman has an Arkham videogame-looking armored suit. Must have been an early rough.

There was that very instructive bonus on the Phantom Menace DVD (at the time), showing how concept artists work on a movie like Star Wars. It was a bit heartbreaking to be honest. You follow those art geniuses for a little while, all the best in the business who draw aliens, buildings, ships, and every single thing they draw or paint is pure art. A painting you would put in your office. Some things are pure architecture with tons of micro-details, some are costume designs that look like stylized paintings, other stuff is weaponry that looks so real it's unbelievable, and I pass on the gorgeous landscapes and the surreal planets, backgrounds, you name it.

Those artists (maybe 10 of them) work night and day for weeks during post-prod, until one day Lucas comes in with their boss. Everything is pinned on a giant wall of art. The artists try to shake his hand, the dream is real, I work for the man, he doesn't look at them, not a word except for the boss, starts at the beginning of the wall, a small mechanical Galactic Republic stamp in his hand (like you would use on an invoice), and he puts a stamp only on what he agrees with. It goes so fast it's surreal, stamp here, no, no, no, stamp here, no, no, and so on. In 5 minutes tops, he's done the entire wall, there's only a few stamps here and there, and 90% of all that art will go to the trash. He keeps talking with the artists' boss, walking away, no word or even a look for anyone, and you can see one of the female artists starting to cry.

It was a gorgeous little documentary but it was really brutal.

I much prefer the more detailed concept art like we saw with The Flash last week, the watercolor smeared stuff doesnt do it for me

The exclusion of Superman from most marketing and promotional material of Justice League was a silly and inefficient stunt. As if anyone had doubts about his return in Justice League...

It was sheer stupidity to kill Superman in the first ever DC team-up movie. Using poker as an analogy, if you turn your hand over early, you just gave your opponent free info.
