Nicolas Cage and Ben Foster discuss the insanity of acting and how to stay sane! Plus, more from Kevin Spacey on a Superman Returns sequel!

Nicolas Cage, Big Daddy in Kick-Ass

On his notoriety as an actor who is known to give "over the top" performances:

"You wouldn’t go to the Guggenheim and look at a Francis Bacon and go, 'Well, that’s over the top.' Why should it be any different for an actor?

"I really am very careful not to let acting become a mental institution. I don’t want it to be insane. I’ve been in scenes with people where all the actors are just plain nuts, doing crazy things to psych themselves up, and I have been that guy as well, and I don’t want to be that person. At least not when I go home."

Ben Foster, Warren Worthington/Angel in X-Men: The Last Stand

On how he uses Transcendental Meditation (TM) to help him prepare for a scene:

"TM, like many techniques, allow us to hear our own voice and one can take a walk in the evening by themselves, some people go jogging, some people knit. It's a ritual that allows us that quiet space inside, so we can hear what we are feeling, what we are thinking.

"TM has always been a source of quieting the static mind... and it creates more space; it's a source of energy.

"I just know that when I do this in the morning and the afternoon that I have a clearer, calmer energy that doesn't feel forced or provoked by a chemical... You have a clearer mind and images and feelings can come up and one can actually address them.

"I usually meditate at lunch on sets. It's a technique that works for me. I have a lot more internal strength to approach the day than I do when I'm not meditating regularly."

Kevin Spacey, Lex Luthor

On whether he'll reprise the role of Lex Luthor in a sequel to Superman Returns or not:

"...look, I had a great time with Superman - but I probably know as much as you do about it. It's in development, and I am contractually meant to do a second one."

If he is contractually obligated then I would only guess so was just about all of the actors that portrayed main characters. Personally I'm ok with that for the most part as long as the action is increased and they give Supes a villian to duke it out with.

Worst lex luthor. Totally unbelievable that Superman can't that guy out. I'll take Rosenbaum any day of the week.

The only bad thing about Luther, is that he has been used in almost every live action Superman. And he has yet to be shown for the truly evil bastard he is.

I seriously doubt the average movie goer (that doesn't read comics) even knows that Luther isn't Supermans only villain.

Spacey IS a great actor, but just like Routh, i think he was forced to be like his predecessor (gene hackman) from the reeve's movies. get rid of all the overused jokes about "land" and losing his hair, and he can be a great luthor.

Doomsday should be in the next movie,so finally we can see superman kickn some ass

DON'T DOUBT THE ROUTH!

Spacey is an amazing actor, it was the sh*t directing that turned him into a laughable real estate tycoon.

If they made Lex actually threatening, powerful, etc. (like he SHOULD be), it would have been great. But, alas, Singer wanted everything like the old Superman films, Christopher Reeves and Gene Hackman impressions included.

I don't think Spacey's contract means anything. WB has made it pretty damn clear they're not going for a sequel to Returns, and that's what Spacey is contracted for, so, it won't happen.

I agree that the problem with Lex is that he's been pretty much the main villain in every Superman film so far. I realize he's a pivotal character, but you can only use the same villain for so long before people want fresh, new material.

Lex needs to be in the reboot of course, just not as the main villain. If they do that, they run the huge risk of both fan and audience backlash, and that is the last thing WB wants, especially after the hate most fans put on Returns, which had Lex as the only villain.

Routhboot, Brainiac, JJ Abrams. 3 simple ingredients to make the perfect Superman reboot.

anyone notice that all three of these actors are from TERRIBLE superhero movies? [Ghost Rider, X3, Superman Returns]

@Brent: Not hate'n on you. By the way, thanks for giving us something to comment about on a Sunday.
