Kick-Ass kicks butt!

Sometimes I make the mistake and ignore the smaller comic book companies. Sure, I read the blurbs in “Wizard Magazine” and mentally scan the reviews here on the website. Admittedly, I focus on Marvel and DC properties. I liked the Hellboy movies, but I was disappointed with 30 Days of Night.

One night recently, I had more curiosity than boredom so I hit the cheap theater to see the end run of Kick-Ass. I could not have been more surprised and entertained. I even liked Nicolas Cage as Big Daddy. I’ve not enjoyed Cage since “Raising Arizona,” still his finest work. Others have said it was slow and tired, but I sensed neither of those qualities.

Instead of going through the rundown of the entire movie, I will just reveal the essence. I read a “Wizard” interview with creator Mark Millar’s saying this is the Spider-Man of this century. You know what? He’s dead on. This had all those anxious pubescent feelings while being heroic and determined. Kick-Ass himself never misses a beat in being the normal teenager unknowingly putting himself in a situation that is way over his head. Big Daddy and Hit Girl round out the movie with dark, humorous moments and plenty of R-rated violence.
It really is a close attempt at placing costumed vigilantes into the real world. Of course, it is soundly a comic book movie—especially in the finale.

To surmise, watch this movie. It is an enjoyable adventure that doesn’t wear you down with too much exposition. It’s so good; make sure anybody who liked Iron Man watches it. It has that same fun feel while telling a really good story. It is well worth the rental fee at your local DVD hub.

Working on my brand new fansite, but there's already some good stuff there.

I never read "30 Days..." but I just felt like it could have had more meat to it. The trailers had a lot of punch.

IM2 was fun, but it was more of a re-hash than developing the characters and leading to the Avengers.
Oh, and remember he says he is the weapon. Yet, Rhodey has no problem using and stealing a suit. What?!

Can't wait for KA2.
