The Marvel Cinematic Universe's timeline has always been a hot topic of debate among fans, and figuring out how all these stories overlap and connect is often easier said than done.

Marvel Studios has clarified how certain movies line up, but the closest we have to an official timeline is the order they're uploaded to Disney+ in! With the MCU's expansion to television in Phase 4, it's become harder than ever to figure out what goes where, but that looks set to change with the release of a new book.

Listed on Penguin Random House's website, Marvel Studios' The Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline is written by Anthony Breznican, Amy Ratcliffe, and Rebecca Theodore-Vachon.

According to the official description, it will help fans "become a master" of this shared world.

"The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is vast, incredibly varied, and richly complex," it continues. "Different worlds, different timelines, countless characters. This is the guide to that universe. Created in close collaboration with Marvel Studios, it will answer the biggest questions: what happened, when, where, and why."

"Follow the entire story of the MCU from before the Big Bang to the Blip and beyond. Along the way, learn more about the evolution of the Iron Man armors, the hunt for the Infinity Stones, and the formation of the Multiverse. Want to know how many times aliens have invaded Earth, or the complete history of Cap's shield? Look no further!"

"A treasured keepsake for any movie buff, filled with exclusive infographics, illuminating timelines, and amazing movie stills, this book will have pride of place on any MCU fan’s shelf."

It's always hard to say whether a book like this will be essential reading, especially as fans pride themselves on knowing every detail possible about a franchise like this. However, an official timeline will be welcomed, and we're sure there will be lots of insights here we haven't seen before, especially as it's approved by Marvel Studios!

We don't have a cover yet, but Marvel Studios' The Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline is currently scheduled for a September 5, 2023 release and is priced at $50.

Why though? They’re just going to muddle it up and have to release another one in a few years. This is something they should take from the comics and just keep it all intentionally vague

It's honestly about time. Especially with all the multiverse shit, we're gonna need a official timeline handy.

Great! Then I can spend another $50 on the updated edition in another year or two, send then another $50 on another updated edition after that, then another $50 on another updated edition after that, then another...

The official timeline is on Disney+.

@PlusUltra - it’s actually wrong though. For some reason they switched IM3 to after TTDW even though IM3 is Christmas 2012 - 6 months after Avengers. TTDW is confirmed 2013, it was the right way around when Disney plus first launched though.

Anything the Celestials told the Eternals is likely bullshit also.

@Doomsday8888 - Will actually make sense too, because I’m sure after Secret Wars, there’s going to be no TVA to stop their mess.

Good. About all we know about phase 4 is it's all after endgame (as well as the projects that are direct sequels, like MoM being after wandavision).

100% it’s still wrong though. At this point the producers are even contradicting specific signs dialogue indicating phase 4 placements - the previous book also had black panther taking place in 2018 which is clearly wrong.

I bet it won’t include The Incredible Hulk.

If anyone is confused by this, here's the correct order - with all evidence confirmed, it's confusing, but not actually that hard to work out if you pay attention. This is only official MARVEL STUDIOS content and not including flashbacks/opening scenes:

First Avenger (1940's)
Agent Carter One Short (1946)
Captain Marvel (1995)
Iron Man (2010 0Been CONFIRMED in numerous sources)
Iron Man 2/The Consultant/Incredible Hulk/Funny Thing/Thor (2011 - CONFIRMED in multiple sources, and overlap covered in Fury's Big Week Comic)
Avengers (2012 - CONFIRMED in Endgame)
Item 47 (2012 - A few days after Battle of NY)
Iron Man 3 (2012 - It's the Christmas after Avengers)
Thor: The Dark World (2013 - CONFIRMED in Endgame)
Winter Soldier (2014 - CONFIRMED in numerous sources)
GOTG (2014 - CONFIRMED in Endgame)
GOTG Vol 2 (2014 - CONFIRMED by James Gunn and Fiege, around six months later)
Age of Ultron (2015 - CONFIRMED in multiple sources)
Ant-Man (2015 - CONFIRMED By dialogue indicating close to AoU)
Civil War (2016 - CONFIRMED in universe and by Russo's)
Doctor Strange (Tales place approximately one year over 2016-2017 - CONFIRMED in universe and by Marvel Studios)
Black Widow/Black Panther (2016 - both take place days after Civil War)
Spider-Man: Homecoming (2016 - a few months after Civil War, despite known error with time frame on opening scene)
Thor: Ragnarok (2017/2018 - could be either but fairly near Infinity War and Strange has been guarding sanctum a while)
Avengers Infinity War/Ant Man and The Wasp (2018 - CONFIRMED in universe)
Avengers Endgame (2018 - 2023 - CONFIRMED in universe)
Wandavision (2023 - three weeks after Endgame CONFIRMED in the show itself)
Falcon and Winter Solider/Eternals (2023 OR 2024 - six months after Endgame, FATWS CONFIRMED by producers, Eternals has to come before:)
Shang-Chi/She-Hulk (2024- Both must be AFTER Eternals and around the same time as they deal with Blonsky's escape and the online article references Tiamut. However, it doesn't explain why Bruce still has a messed up arm. So six - eight months after Endgame. Peters senior year is 2023-2024 given when he restarts in Endgame and ends in No Way Home.)
Black Panther (2024 - very clearly indicated by dilaogue. Nakia has been gone six years after T'Challa blipped.)
Spider-Man Far From Home/No Way Home (2024 - CONFIRMED by producers eight months after Endgame, immediately leading into the next film and end of school year which takes us to Christmas 2024)
Hawkeye (2024 - Christmas and Year, CONFIRMED by producers)
Thor: Love and Thunder (Sometime in 2025 if he and Jane broke up just before Ragnarok)
Ms Marvel (fall 2025 - confirmed by food truck hyginene certificate)

Unknown: Moon Knight - no connections to anything else.
GOTG Holiday Special - if its Christmas 2024 then Groot got JACKED in the year since Endgame. But if Quill is still mourning Gamora it could even be Christmas 2023 - in which case Groot's size makes even less sense.

Outside time and Space: Loki.

You're Welcome.

@deamon - hahah I KNEW I’d forget something! Still 2024 as stated in the film it’s a ‘few months’ after No Way Home. So I assume somewhere between the ending if of No Way Home which the end of school year June/July and the Christmas epilogue. Thanks dude!
