Hard to believe that Spidey was part of the MCU for five straight, successful years. Although, like the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. Sony and Disney couldn't reach an agreement to make a new deal, so that leaves Spider-Man back where he started off; all by himself.
Now, there's a rumor saying that Sony has given Disney a call to settle on a new deal, and this is what
We Got This Covered had to say about it...
According to our trusted sources – the same ones who told us Marvel was developing a She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel show well before they were officially announced – the two parties are still talking and the current deal on the table is apparently for Disney to get 30% of Spider-Man. However, the agreement does ask that Venom be part of the MCU. At the moment, however, it’s unclear if the Mouse House is willing to accept the terms.
Take this with a grain of salt, but it's difficult not to get somewhat excited over the prospect of this. It was always expected that Sony and Disney would continue to negotiate until they could finally agree on something. At the end of the day, Spider-Man in the MCU is beneficial for both parties. So hopefully this rumor turns out to be true.
With the box office
Venom dragged in, one would think Disney would eventually grow to like the idea of the symbiote in their universe. If it means getting Spider-Man back, then it seems like a no-brainer. However, there's no telling when or if this will occur. So it's a waiting game at this point.
