We still don't know much about the upcoming
Men in Black spinoff, starring Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth, but thanks to a recently shared photo, we know that our beloved galaxy-saving agents will spend at least part of it in the desert.
Thompson posted a photo on Instagram that teases the two agents, donning their iconic, matching black suits, trudging through the desert. While they've also got the signature glasses, it looks like they've got a new MIB accessory - black umbrellas. Thompson captioned the photo "Buds in Black," which perhaps would be a more fitting title for the film considering it stars a man and a woman this time around and not just two men.
Thompson appears to be taking the lead, looking back at a trailing Hemsworth who looks to be struggling a bit in the sandy desert. Again, plot details are being kept under wraps, but if I had to judge based on this photo, it seems Thompson will be a veteran agent with Hemsworth perhaps learning the ropes. That's assuming this spinoff is following the same formula as the original
Men in Black trilogy which starred Will Smith as a New York police officer turned MIB agent with Tommy Lee Jones serving as the grizzled veteran mentor.
In a recent interview (via
ComicBook), Hemsworth said a lot of work is being put in to recapture the same humorous and adventures tone as the original trilogy. He acknowledged that they've got some big shoes to fill with this film, but we've seen in
Thor: Ragnarok that both he and Thompson have fantastic on-screen chemistry and are quite capable of pulling off comedy.
"We're basically trying to put a lot of humor into it like the previous ones. These are obviously some big shoes to fill, so we're working our butts off on it to make something pretty epic and fun. They're trying to change up the locations, make it feel unique and different to the last ones as well. So I think you might even see some different countries, maybe. Some different cities than you've seen in the previous Men In Black movies."
Well, based on this photo, it seems Hemsworth was indeed correct when he said we'll be visiting some different locations.
Men in Black is being directed by F. Gary Gray with a script from Art Marcum and Matt Halloway. It's due out in theaters on June 14, 2019.
