John Wilbanks - When did you start collecting and how did you get into the hobby?

Hannibal King - I started collecting around 1992 when I was 12. I still remember my Papa bought me my first comic which started the collection going. What If #37 from 1983. I still have it too.

John Wilbanks - Your collection is Aquaman themed. What is that makes Aquaman the subject of your collection?

Hannibal King - It’s a mixture of the fact that he is still a joke to a lot of people, despite the very cool current series. Also in terms of action figures I didn’t think there would be too many out there (compared to say Batman), and I wanted to see just how many Aquaman figures there actually were. With the current state of the world economy it made fiscal sense.

John Wilbanks - Do you collect anything else?

Hannibal King - I collect comics. I’ve just reached the 10,000 mark. It made the local paper in fact.

Lilydale Yarra Valley Leader

John Wilbanks - What are your favorite collectible companies?

Hannibal King - I would say Marvel, just because as a kid that’s what I read mainly. I do favour the golden/silver/bronze age of comics though and for that DC has some great material.

John Wilbanks - What is your favorite part of collecting?

Hannibal King - Keeping up with the story. It’s like a geek-version of watching a day-time soap opera. Also there’s certain artists I like to follow such as Scott McDaniel, Tristan Jones (IDW Ghostbusters). And then there’s books which remind me of when I was a kid. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Popeye as the perfect examples.

John Wilbanks - What is the key thing you look for in an item you want to add to your collection?

Hannibal King - Price. I attend a comic stall market 3 times a year looking for the older material. If someone is selling books at $1 an issue you can bet I’m there!

John Wilbanks - What does your significant other think of your collection?

Hannibal King - She supports it as I don’t let it interfere with the other aspects of our life. Family, then work, they come first. I do do a lot of reading at night though.

John Wilbanks - What is your favorite movie?

Hannibal King - Ravenous, starring Guy Pearce and Robert Carlyle.

John Wilbanks - What is your favorite piece from your collection?

Hannibal King - There are a few wooden pegs my twin brother made up for me showcasing Aquaman’s various costumes. They’re a hoot!

John Wilbanks - What are some items you are most looking forward to adding to your collection?

Hannibal King - The current Justice League Aquaman action figure looks great, however anytime there’s a new Aquaman action figure coming out I look forward to buying it.

John Wilbanks - Finally, what is your favorite aspect of ComicBookMovie.com?

Hannibal King - I view the site at least once a day and there’s nearly always some behind the scenes news I find interesting. I’m looking forward to reading more about Marvel Now too. Much like when the New 52 DC was in the works I’m hanging for news on Marvel Now. Aquaman Rules!!!

It really gets me angry that Aquaman doesn't get the respect and justice that he deserves and nice collection.

i love this feature, mostly because it's really cool to hear from other people WHY they love/collect a certain character

I forgot to put this pic before the sharks.

I am sure a statue of Aquaman inspired by Ivan Reis would look amazing.

Aquaman has always been cool, his powers are great but i believe its just mishandling by DC. I wish they would really show how awesome his powers are. Just his sonar alone is powerful, a killer whale has sonar that if directed at a human being in the water could leave that person with a concussion. Imagine if they had Aquaman using his sonar ability like that.

I thought we were talking about the Hannibal King from the Blade comics, Aquaman is an all right character kind of like Marvels Ant-Man only great when given to the right person

Aquaman is great when written the right way. I hated when they tried to turn him into a Namor clone, but the New 52 series is awesome.

@GeekOfKrypton- So you want to see more concussions in comics? I don't think the Super Hero Union will back that. Look what concussions has done for the NFL. Besides I think being able to lobotomize someone is slightly cooler. Also, you wouldn't know if it was a concussion until someone did the concussion test on said supervillian that was potentially concussionized.

All in all, I like that you collect specifically Aquaman. That is very unique. I was looking for Mermaidman to pop up in one of these pictures though since he is a rendition of Aquaman.

You know, I never thought to name myself after Aquaman. Maybe because when I was deciding on a name I was really into Marvel at the time and thought Hannibal King was cool. I still do. But for DC, Aquaman is awesome!

@plasticman - and lobotomizing someone is any gentler? It would be a very cool use of his sonar skills. Superman's heat vision can fry someone, Captain Atom could potentially give someone cancer or his powers could overload and create an atomic bomb and level a city or the entire eastern seaboard.

I love football too so I don;t want to see players get hurt but we are talking about comics here and if you have been checking out "The New 52" then you would see that this version of our heroes aren't playing around.
