BOX OFFICE: DRACULA UNTOLD Opens Strong But Batfleck's GONE GIRL May Win Weekend
Dracula Untold sunk its fangs into a solid start at late Thursday showings, but Gone Girl - starring Batman v Superman's Ben Affleck - will likely win the weekend.
Dracula Untold earned $1.3 million at Thursday night screenings, but early predictions have Gone Girl pegged as taking the top spot for a second straight weekend. That's rare for an R-Rated drama, but the positive buzz and strong late week grosses should see it accomplish that feat (something which hasn't been done since 2010's Shutter Island). It's going to be a close call as the horror movie is tracking to earn an amount in the high teens, early twenties. David Fincher's latest effort meanwhile is taking aim for the mid twenties. The Judge - Robert Downey Jr.'s latest movie which he has produced alongside his wife, producer Susan Downey - may get lost in the shuffle as Deadline believes it will finish in fifth place. The response to what initially appeared to be a legitimate Oscar contender has not been great, so Robert Downey Jr. may want to rethink his position in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as his name perhaps isn't as big a draw without Iron Man attached to it...
