BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN Has Been Postponed; Javier Bardem And Angelina Jolie Still On Board... For Now

The Mummy was not exactly a great start for Universal's Dark Universe, but the studio is clearly hoping that the second installment in the rebooted horror franchise fares better, as they've paused production in order to get the script up to scratch.

According to Deadline, Bill Condon's Bride of Frankenstein had actually began pre-production in London but the director and studio execs decided to send the crew home for the time being while they get things in order.

“After thoughtful consideration, Universal Pictures and director Bill Condon have decided to postpone Bride of Frankenstein,” Universal said in a statement . “None of us want to move too quickly to meet a release date when we know this special movie needs more time to come together. Bill is a director whose enormous talent has been proven time and again, and we all look forward to continuing to work on this film together.”

We had been led to believe that Javier Bardem had already signed on to play Frankenstein's monster but this report states that he's still only in talks, along with Angelina Jolie who is in line to play his reluctant bride. Apparently, both actors are willing to wait it out, but have decided not to fully commit "until this all gets rectified."

Can't really build a franchise off of such a flawed premise. If you wanted a cinematic universe for these monsters, you shouldn't have decided to turn them all into [frick]ing modern day action films.

@Kurban - Never a truer word. The originals worked because they were character films.

Seems like they're burying the lede. It's strange to jump and do Bride of Frankenstein before actually filming the film titled Frankenstein.

@theFUZZ008 - I think that is being done on purpose. In this reality the bride supposed to be created first in the story is from her POV. At least that's how I believe it has been explained.

@theFUZZ008 - I still don't understand where they plan to slot in the dark and edgy Young Frankenstein reboot.

So you mean after starting this, scrapping it after the bad reviews of Dracula: Untold, and failing again with the Mummy these movies are in doubt... shocker ._.

I actually want this as a shared universe as I love the classic universal monsters but they shouldnt be big budget action movies they should be lower budget horror movies with pulpy elements. Stop trying to imitate comic book movies and focus on the horror tropes even if it isnt overtly dark or gory (which i don think they should be) these movies should be and always have been at their core horror films

@Ha1frican - I agree, but unfortunately Hollywood is the least original form of art

Good, Bardem can clear his schedule of the The Dark Tower tv series.

The Mummy sent this universe into a tomb already

Conjuring shared universe is beating this up badly.
Of all the "problems" some of the franchises have had. It's this one that hurts the most. :-(

Also they shouldnt be talking about Bill Congdon like hes a visionary, the dude made Beauty and the Beast which was great but only bc of the animated original setting up literally everything. His only other notable directing credits are Twilight: Breaking Dawn and Dreamgirls

@Ha1frican - go to your amazon account and order 'Gods and Monsters'.

@Ha1frican - He also wrote Chicago, (for which he earned an Oscar nom, he already won one for Gods and Monsters by then) and he wrote/directed Kinsey. You should check these movies out.

Maybe it's time for Universal to just give up on trying to relaunch these monsters into a universe. There's been 3 tries (4 if you wanna count The Wolfman) and none of them have worked out. Just let it go.

Personally, I love Tom Cruise’s body of work. The Mummy was the first time I left the theater after one of his films disappointed. It was not good. Even his less-than-great films had some redeeming quality but I was surprised he even signed on to this project. I hope Universal decides to instead just give us great stand alone remakes.

@Kman - I think it’s worth a few bucks from Redbox but i wouldn’t pay more than$3 lol

Ha, this is actually the only movie in this new universe I'm somewhat interested in. I guess them taking their time can be seen as a good thing. But as others have said... maybe make the movies scary to a certain degree?

The Mummy didn't start the Universal Monster Universe. Dracula Untold did, err never mind.

I'm already looking forward to the sequel "Pride of Frankenstein". And of course the final installment in the trilogy, "Last Ride of Frankenstein".

@TheManWithoutFear - You forgot the Jane Austenized Pride and Prejudice of Frankenstein.
