The New Gods movie has found a co-writer, and it's one fans of DC Comics' current Batman run will be very familiar with.

Tom King (Mister Miracle, Swamp Thing, Nightwing, The Vision) will pen the script for the upcoming film with its director Ava DuVernay. The news was first reported by The Wrap before being confirmed via Twitter by DuVernay herself.

It's been a while since we had any New Gods updates, and the fact that King - who won an Eisner Award for his work on Mister Miracle - is going to be involved with bringing Jack Kirby's creations to the big screen should please fans of the mega-powerful characters.

Plot details remain a mystery, but there have been rumors that the story will revolve around Miracle's romance with Big Barda.

Hey ⁦@TomKingTK⁩. Ready to write NEW GODS, buddy?

Not like he's all that busy with Batman anymore.

I'm surprised she's getting a big budget project again after her last one became one of the biggest flops in the last decade.

@MrDandy - she seems like a BLANK CHECK director.

There's a lot of them out there. Tim Burton, Alex Proyas, Tarantino.

@MrDandy - Right? Typically only white men get a second chance following a flop.

@MrDandy - She does seem to have a pretty strong track record aside from that one flop. A Wrinkle in Time is her only film below an 80% on Rotten Tomatoes.

@MrDandy - The directing wasn’t the problem with that film, visually it looked pretty great but that screenplay left a lot to be desired.

Every film she had a had in writing and directing has been praised, the fact she’s writing this with King is a very very positive sign.

@MrDandy - To be fair though, and correct me if I'm wrong, the script for that movie was finished before she even came on to the project. And from what I saw of it, it was no different than the Disney made for TV movie from the late 90's early 2000's. So I don't know how much of a difference she was really going to make

Okay. Interesting. Tom king wrote a really good Mister Miracle book. However the book isn’t a great basis for a New Gods franchise movie. Also Tom king is super hit or miss. Vision was great. Heroes in crisis was a travesty. So this is... mixed feelings. I hope it’s good. I love mister miracle. Here’s to hoping it’s Tom King at his best!

This is good. Tom knows his New Gods lore, and has had the best take on the Fourth World since "The King" himself. I'm sure she'll help him so it works for screen and not just a comic book. Sheesh you guys take any good news and make it so negative.
