It's been a while since we've had any updates on the New Gods movie, but Ava DuVernay has now taken to social media to reveal that All-Widow, the queen of the insectoid people of New Genesis, will appear..

Although pre-production on Warner Bros.' planned New Gods movie has been impacted (along with everything else) by the COVID-19 pandemic, director Ava DuVernay has revealed that she's still hard at work on the script with Tom King, and is now on the fourth draft.

The filmmaker also confirmed that the DC Comics adaptation will feature All-Widow. For those that may not be familiar with this character, she is the Bug Queen of New Genesis, whose insectoid people are seen to be inferior by the New Gods.

All-Widow will join previously confirmed characters Darkseid and the Female Furies.

Plot details for the film are still under wraps, but the story is rumored to focus on the relationship between Mr. Miracle and Big Barda. We still don't know for certain if either of those characters will appear, but it would seem like a safe enough bet given their popularity and prominence in the source material. Granny Goodness, Desaad, and Godfrey are also strong possibilities.

Casting news is probably also still a ways off, but DuVernay did previously indicate that she intended to cast an actor from her acclaimed When They See Us Netflix miniseries.

I was kind of hoping they scrapped this film but even with my pessimism, this might turn out great.
dracula - 5/6/2020, 8:22 PM
Hopefully its good
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 5/6/2020, 8:25 PM
I'm so scared they'll [frick] this up.
inkniron - 5/6/2020, 11:12 PM
@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Don't be scared. Just accept that's probably the way it's going to go down and it'll soften the blow.
Elbarto63 - 5/7/2020, 11:26 AM
@inkniron - Thats a good advice for everything in life. Even applies to banal things like movies. Just expect a mayor disappointment. It wont hurt that much when/if it sucks.

I hope this movie happens. When They See Us kind of re-affirmed that Wrinkle in Time was a fluke, since Ava's got a great grasp on character work.
Also, Dev Patel would be a great Scott Free, if they're doing something similar to Tom King's run with that character.
Dredd97 - 5/6/2020, 8:32 PM
@tmp3 - Dev Patel would be great. You know who else, did you see A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood? Matthew Rhys I think his name is. He'd be a great Scott too. I'm interested in this a whole lot.
tmp3 - 5/6/2020, 8:37 PM
@Dredd97 - I... have not. I guess I'll need to fix that since I loved the director's previous film, Can You Ever Forgive Me. I've not seen The Americans either, and I've always heard people say Rhys is fantastic in it.
He's in the new Perry Mason mini-series coming to HBO next month though, and that looks solid from the trailer.

@tmp3 - I think Marshall Logan Green would be a great fit, even though he looks just like Tom Hardy.
Dredd97 - 5/6/2020, 9:03 PM
@tmp3 - For sure! It was actually really good. Sweet and somber, but hopeful. He's pretty great and melancholy throughout.

Just finished reading through Kirby's whole saga including New Gods, Forever People, and Mister Miracle. If they can pull this off and make it work according to Kirby, it'll be incredible. His imagination was unparalleled.
tmp3 - 5/6/2020, 8:38 PM
@Dredd97 - What did you think of King's Mr. Miracle run? That was one of my favorite comics of the 2010s
Battabing - 5/6/2020, 8:42 PM
@Dredd97 - Check out Walt Simonson's Orion. It's some of the best Fourth World material I've ever read.

Dredd97 - 5/6/2020, 9:05 PM
@tmp3 - Dude, I loved it. It maintains Kirby's spirit, but makes it fresh and realistic. People can die. Characters that we know. I also loved his Darkseid. I feel in recent years, Darkseid has become generic bad guy. But it was pure Kirby Darkseid. He Is. He's the embodiment of evil, fear, masochism. He's a concept more than a character, a nightmare if you will.
Dredd97 - 5/6/2020, 9:07 PM
@Battabing - I'll have to. I'm leery on versions outside of Kirby's, but I love Simonson's Thor. There's similar themes there, so I'll check it out. Loved Cosmic Odyssey by Starlin and Mignola. If you haven't read it yet, seek it out. 3 years before Starlin did Infinity Gauntlet too
Battabing - 5/6/2020, 9:15 PM
@Dredd97 - I read Cosmic Odyssey when I was a kid. I LOVE Mignola's art in the series, but Starlin's story is straight trash, especially what he did to John Stewart.
Frankly, any DC project with Starlin's name on it, I actively avoid.

Cough Death of the New Gods Barf.

@Dredd97 - Oh man, it's so good. I loved how intensely, insanely human it all felt. Really hoping King brings those sensibilities on here, and sets it up for Ava to knock it out of the park.
TheUnworthyThor - 5/6/2020, 9:40 PM
@Battabing - Huh, I genuinely didn’t know this existed, I know what I’m picking up soon.
Dredd97 - 5/6/2020, 10:01 PM
@Battabing - Haha wow, yeah? I wasn't a fan of the John Stewart part, but overall I thought it was ok. But Mignola shined for sure
Dredd97 - 5/6/2020, 10:02 PM
@tmp3 - I agree. I'm really hoping this turns out spectacular
GhostDog - 5/6/2020, 8:39 PM
But will the movie appear...
demery - 5/6/2020, 8:59 PM
Who'd be down if DuVernay decided to cast her regular, David Oyelowo, as Darkseid?

Chewtoy - 5/6/2020, 9:13 PM
I have to wonder what kind of budget WB would be comfortable going forward with for this film. It seems like a harder sell than Shazam!, and a necessarily far more expensive production.
WakandaTech - 5/6/2020, 9:17 PM

New Gods
Wonder Woman 3

Pretty Epic
tmp3 - 5/6/2020, 9:27 PM
@WakandaTech - A WB Superman movie... don't get my hopes up :(
Anyways, David Corenswet for Clark Kent since it's looking likely that Cavill won't be back
