BadRobot’s World War II Film “OVERLORD” To Become CLOVERFIELD 4

Producer JJ Abrams and BadRobot continue to expand the Cloverfield brand as not only is there a third film on the horizon but a fourth entry has apparently already been filmed.

What was once a somewhat gimmicky hand-held monster movie Cloverfield has since become BadRobot's Twilight Zone-esque universe banner, when back in 2016 the great Dan Trachtenberg directed 10 Cloverfield Lane was revealed to have been completed in near complete secrecy and then released soon after to great acclaim.

While there is currently talk about the release platform of the third film in this loose uniform of science-fiction films, originally a project called God Particle but noe rumoured to be titled Cloverfield Station it has been revealed that another JJ Abrams produced film, a WWII project called Overlord has not only completed filming but will also serve as the fourth entry in the Cloverfield franchise.

For those unaware the premise of Overlord is as follows;

On the eve of D-Day, American paratroppers are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a mission crucial to the invasion's success. But as they approach their target, they begin to realise there is more going on in this Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. They find themselves fighting against supernatural forces, part of a Nazi experiment.

Overlord comes from director Julius Avery (Son of a Gun) and is scripted by Billy Ray (Captain Philips) and The Revenant scribe Mark L. Smith (who is also the screenwriter bringing Quentin Tarantino's STAR TREK pitch to fruition). There is no word yet on a new title for Overlord to bring it in line with the rest of this univers, though an Operation Cloverfield or some equally WWII/Militaristic soundng title might do.

Overlord originally had a release date of 28th October though this is likely to change.

God Particle / Clvoerfield Station is set for release in April 2018
Directed by: Julius Onah
Starring;
Daniel Bruhl in an undisclosed role
Elizabeth Debicki in an undisclosed role
Gugu Mbatha-Raw in an undislosed role
Chris O'Dowd in an undisclosed role

So is there any continuity at all?

Or are these just anthology films? Because if so, I'm a lot less invested.

The way this timeline is set up I hope there is a BIG payoff at the end.

Hopefully this Overlord movie won't hurt the chances for a live action Overlord version.

Interested to see which way they go with the Cloverfield franchise. On the one hand we had the news the other day that Paramount might be about to offload Cloverfield Station / The God Particle onto Netflix (with or without the Cloverfield branding) and yet now we have news they are looking at a Cloverfield 4.

Perhaps both stories are true and they want to make this a streaming-exclusive franchise, but it would seem silly to build the Cloverfield branding onto these projects and then not exploit a full cinematic release.

p.s. someone should trademark "Cloverlord" before they snap it up...

I’m not paying to see any of these unless they are an actual sequel to Cloverfield which now probably won’t happen if Matt Reeves sticks with Batman for a while
