Batman & Robin Named Worst Movie of All Time

Batman & Robin Named Worst Movie of All Time

Rubber nipples and Alicia Silverstone tops Empire's Worst 50 Movies of all time list, but its not the only comic based movie to make the list.

Empire's online movie poll, which was voted on by the public, names Batman and Robin as The Worst Movie Ever to Grace the Silver Screen. Here is a what they had to say:

"Gaining nearly three times as many votes as the next entry, this was a runaway loser. From the neon design to the overblown script to the infamous Batnipples, it's become a byword for franchise-killing and bad movie-making"

They also threw in a short review for the film:

"[The cast] is quite a line-up, boasting a broad choice of dramatic styles, and what lends the movie cohesion and integrity is the fact that all those involved have come up with their worst imaginable performances…You sit there feeling brain-damaged and praying for the mayhem to cease."
- Anthony Lane, The New Yorker

Other notable comic book movies that made the list:

50. Spider-Man 3
46. Howard the Duck ( I loved this movie when I was a kid)
45. Blade Trinity
40. Superman IV the Quest for Peace
39. Dungeons and Dragons
33. Ultraviolet
32. The Spirit
25. Transformers : Revenge of the Fallen
15. Catwoman

There were a few more movies on the list that had comic book to their name, but they were mostly video game based.

I agree that B&R is probably the worst CBM ever but I would not go as far as to say it's the worst movie of all time. I don't agree with Spider-Man 3 being on the list. It might have had its faults but it is not one of the worst movies of all time. I mean, come on, is it worse the the Super Mario Brothers movie?

These are the worst of all time? Really? This list is retarded. This isn't a list of the worst movies of all time, it's more like a list of not great movies that came out in the last twenty years or so that they hope will make for a lot of uproar on message boards.

Sure, some of these are bad, but not the worst of ALL TIME. I've watched a lot of MST3K episodes and some of THOSE movies might be the worst of all time.
And what about straight to video garbage or Roger Corman films or Ed Wood pictures or anything that actually features Paris Hilton as an actress?

This list is a joke.

I think the the people that took the poll are either young or have not seen alot of movies. On a side note I thought House of Wax (Paris Hilton) was not too bad of a movie.

I agree most of said movies were terrible. I'd kinda' like to see the rest of the list though.

Hey you up there gibbyblaylock. Whats your beef with Roger Corman? Rock 'n' Roll High School and Humanoids from the Deep didnt do it for ya'? Those are classic pictures.

Hey, how about a few more?

GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra
Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen
Punisher: War Zone
Nick Fury: Agent of SHIELD (1998 - yeah, I know it's a made-for-TV film... but it was still SUCKED!)
Steel (1997)
Captain America (1990)
Punisher (1989)

XmutantX - I had more than just 'a few' problems with ROTF! How about a non-sensical plot-line and wooden acting from all (the robots were more animated than these guys!)? This movie wasn't just 'flawed', it BLEW!

SirPrize - Great call! 'Catwoman' sucked kitty litter!

okay they are not of todays qaulity of movies.... but the worst...?? unfortunatly I've seen tons of movies which where much much much worse than these!!

but okay...... If you make a poll amongst people who don't like CB-movies or pregnant-woman who are waiting for their qaulity programs like the bold and the beautiful or as the world turns............ yep than they are the worst....... maybe it's a good idea(don't know if it's been done??) to have a poll amongst cb-fans. which is the best and worst (cb) movie...??
loganoneil
loganoneil - 2/3/2010, 7:27 AM
phenomenon - It's a great idea, but I don't see it ever being done by Hollywood. The industry considers us a niche market (too small to care about). They're starting to realize the true potential with such hits as The first 'X-Men' and 'Spiderman', 'Iron Man' and 'Dark Knight', but they'll never listen directly to us because the have to 'appeal to a wider marketshare'....

log@ non sensical plot line?...y cus it was original...and all the actors were the same as the 1st...if u rated thismovie as a stand alone..then it would be great...if u judged it compared 2 the 1st..ok the story was lacking compared 2 the original...but putting it on the list next 2 catwoman...c'mon thats jus over exagerating big time!! catwoman failed in the theaters 4 a reason...this one didnt...

teabag-- Can you explain to me why some super heroes say "chum"? Who the hell ever calls you his chum? Were the writers 70 yr old brits or something?

bropous-- Aren't those all MST3K movies?

Ultraviolet was a pretty big steaming pile.

tea-- lol! No way that is an American term! Well, now that I think about it the Captain used to say it all the time. Sounds like something Marv Wolfman would use. I don't know if he ever worked for Marvel.

Im reading Crisis on Infinite Earths right now. It's silly-town.

I think in terms of CBMs and what we all now what a Batman film can really be. Batman and Robin is the worst movie of all time, Super Mario Bros. was better. I thought Punisher War Zone was a good movie. It reflected the comic book much better than the Thomas Jane film. The Punisher film with Dolph was better too.

Batman & Robin was the end for several actors!
Silverstone & O'Donnel are two of them!

But I tell you Blank Man with Damon Wayans made
my head hurt! I only watched half of it and couldn't
take it anymore! It made Cat Woman look like
an Oscar winner by comparison! Yikes!

But the money they spent on B & R and it turd...uh...I
mean turned out the way it did! Unbelievable! Its
worst than bad its shameful!!!

Betty - 2/3/2010, 7:49 AM
I haven't even liked a Punisher movie yet.

Batman and Robin did suck but Batman Forever was almost just as bad.

Phenomenon - I'm saying that Hollywood is slow to act. For years CM fans were (and to a certain extent, even today) are considered a niche market. Aside from Donner's 'Superman' movies and Burton's 'Batman' films, the studios didn't care what the comic book world had to offer. When Shumacher made his craptacular contributions to Burton's Batman legacy (ie. 'death of a franchisde'), shunned away from us. Uh yeah, every now and then they'd throw us a bone or two in hopes of landing the next big hit, but for a long while, we had to deal with taking the back seat. Then (as the Hollywood machine ran out of ideas), it turned back to us to save their bacon ,and we got classics like 'Spiderman', the first 'X-Men' (both of which have their flaws, but I won't go into them here), 'Batman Begins' and 'Iron Man'. But do the studios actually LISTEN to the CB and their fans? Watch films like 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' and then answer that question (especially of you're a Deadpool fan). Hollywood wants the best of both worlds - they want the fan base of CB's (as niche as it is), AND they want to appeal to a 'wider marketshare'. As long as this happens, we'll get more than our fair share of watered-down crap along with the (occasional) truly brilliant film.

But B & R is not the worst movie of all times by far!!!

Anybody ever seen the Incredible Melting Man?
Rick Baker actually worked on that when he was
just a kid! Even his stuff was wretched! And I
actually made it through all of it so I could
see exactly how bad the whole thing was!

It made PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE by ED WOOD look
good!

Most of the movies are more recent because people remember more recent things more clearly, and because there have been a LOT of really bad movies that have come out in the last 15 years or so.

As bad as Batman & Robin was, my personal worst movie EVER is Robocop 2. I've never seen a more miserable, hate-filled, loathsome, misanthropic, and all-around worthless movie in my life. I really wanted to see someone show up and kill the whole cast of that piece of filth on film for real so that they could never inflict anything like that on an audience again. What makes this one worse is that the original Robocop is among my all-time favorite films.

I'll have more to say about this after I have time to look at the whole list. Too bad I can't find the list by itself where I could just review them all side-by-side (the site I found had them individually, and it'll be tonight before I have time to review all that). Please post a link if such a list exists.

bropous-- My fave is "Parts: The Clonus Horror". I laugh every time until my eyes bleed. Oh and all the Joe Don Baker ones, classic.

SirPrize-- Yeah that doesn't sound right to me. "School Chums", Americans didn't say that, did they?

Tea-- So he DID write for Marvel! I only started paying attention to writers after image started. I was one of those artist kids. I was all, "OOOOOhhhh, it's the writers that make the story good not the artists, derrrrr."
