Best CBM Villains? You Tell Me.

Best CBM Villains? You Tell Me.

Ok, so we have about 3 weeks until the introduction of the Mandarin in Iron Man 3. So far, viral marketing has shown him to be a badass. Let check out 5 of the best CBM villains he'll have to beat out to be "the best"

(IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER)

*The Dark Knight's "Joker"- Pure chaos and no true motive. That is how the Joker was conceived, and that is how he should be executed. The Dark Knight, although called "overrated", was praised by both critics and fans for the late Heath Ledger's performance. Possibly the only thing he can be criticized for is his lack of being "clown-like" or "funny". However, if Mr. Ledger was still alive, I'm sure he would have made your doubt "disappear".

*Iron Man's "Iron Monger"- One of the things I enjoyed in Iron Man was Jeff Bridges' portrayal of Obadiah Stane. From getting his boss captured by terrorists or stealing his heart, this guy is pure evil. "Hold still you little prick".

*Superman II's "General Zod"- I for one was happy when I saw he was being remade in Man of Steel. This exiled Kyrptonian had all of Superman's powers, 2 partners with the same powers, and an extremely awesome catchphrase. Terrance Stamp portrayed a truly evil villain (unlike the comedic Lex Luthor. Seriously??).

*Spider-man's "Green Goblin"- I will say that no other villain in the Spider-man series matched Willem Dafoe's Norman Osborne. Doc Ock was more of a tragic villain, as well as Sandman; and we all saw Venom, right? Old Gobby may have a Power Ranger's uniform, but he is evil. He died trying to kill his enemy, unlike the "transformed villains". However his shining moment was defiantly on the bridge, where he gave Spider-man a sadistic choice.

*Batman Begin's "Ra's al Ghul"- What can I say? Liam Neeson is a good actor. He gave Batman the skills on how to truly beat him, and even Batman had a tough time doing it. He knew what was necessary in his own diluted fantasy. In a weird way, he was only trying to do good, by killing millions. He even had a group of ninja henchmen and a hot daughter! How much more badass can you get??

Honorable Mention: The Avenger's "Loki"- While he had a good plan, I just didn't enjoy how Josh Whedon made him "Supergod". Seriously, I know overpowered villains aren't uncommon, but seriously, making it a "god" against another "god", a "super soldier", a "billionaire, playboy, genius, philanthropist", a guy with major anger management issues, and some master assassins is more than enough.
The Dark Knight Rise's "Bane"- I loved him. He is one of the only villains to truly beat down the hero. But I was hesitant about including Tom Hardy's excellent portrayal due to the plot twist that Nolan Haters hate on. Seriously, just because he was working with Talia, doesn't mean that he was working for her. THANKS FOR THE STEREOTYPE JEEP SWENSON!!!

When you say best CBM villains, I assume you mean the actual villains and their schemes as opposed to their portrayal right?

Well as far as portrayals go, I'd say:
1. Heath Ledger-The Joker
2. Tom Hiddleston-Loki
3. Ian McKellen/Michael Fassbender-Magneto(I can never decide between these to, but if I had to pick one, I'm leaning towards Fassbender)
4. Liam Neeson-Ra's Al Ghul
5.Jack Nicholson-The Joker

Loki's my favorite. That's how he's supposed to be, and Tom Hiddleston's facial expressions are hypnotic.

I explained why I dislike Loki on the list, and Doc Ock. Ra's was identical to the comics(except the Henri Ducard training stuff) so it doesn't matter that he wasn't revealed til the end. And I was close to including Bane, but I foresaw the Nolan haters saying he was a lovesick dog, so I hesitated

Nice list.My list would be....
1)Bane Dark Knight Rises-He actually won thought short live.

2)Joker Batman/Dark Knight-Both were crazy and true to the Joker plus he technically won in the end.

3)Green Goblin Spider-man-Good villain but he impaled himself.

4)Ra's Al Ghul Batman Begins-His proteges destroyed both the League of Shadows and the Jedi Order.

5)Loki Thor/Avengers-His victory though short live in the first movie was successful and he help bring together the Avengers.

Alfred Molina's Doc Ock was pretty spot on...

Ledgers Joker just gets better with each viewing and is the only total re-imagining of a comic book character that enhances rather than detracts from the lore.

Special mention to Luke Goss' elf prince in Hellboy II (as well as his original Reaper in Blade 2) the guy needs to be introduced as a major villain within the MCU... but who?

1. Heath Ledger as The Joker
2. Tom Hiddleston as Loki
3. Ian Mckellen and Michael Fassbender as Magneto
4. Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin (purely down to Defoe as without him the character is rather bland and lacking in the motivation department)
5. Brian Cox as William Stryker
Abary

1. Avengers' Loki
2. TDK's Joker
3. Spider-Man 2's Doc Ock
4. X-Men:FC's Magneto
5. CA:TFA's Red Skull

...... And Probably The Mandarin In Less Than A Month...
EdgyOutsider
EdgyOutsider - 4/13/2013, 5:10 AM
1: Heath Ledger's Joker
2: Michael Fassbender's Magneto
3: Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin
4: Tom Hiddlestons' Loki
5: Tom Hardy's Bane

Those are the five that The Mandarin has to beat to be number one. He needs an outstanding portrayal that goes with a great plan. The whole "lessons" thing we've been seeing from the trailers, tv spots and the featurette, I think it's great and I think it's really going to help him. Out. Still waiting for Captain America: The Winter Soldier to see how Crossbones turns out.

I have to agree with the author about Loki. He was great, but he foils easy. He also didn't seem that threatening, always using someone else to do his dirty work, or getting owned by Black Widow and Hulk.

But I agree with most everyone else.
Joker (both)
Magneto (both)
Doc Ock (Not as nasty as Goblin, but every bit as menacing, and more interesting to boot)

I appreciate the nod to Iron Monger, who doesn't get enough credit. That's who Mandarin has to live up to, just as Michael Shannon Zod better live up to Terrance Stamp's

Oh, and Bane was incredible. If the movie CBM villains all battled each other, I believe Bane would defeat all

@VIRILEMAN
No problem? Since when is getting shot with a fricken cannon "no problem". go back to English class, learn the definitions of "no" and "problem"
DannRamm113
DannRamm113 - 4/13/2013, 1:11 PM
@VIRILEMAN
is that what I said? I said that a villain that needs to get shot with a cannon is not "no problem". I guess your just a Nolan Hater. Btw, Lizard and Sandman are bitch villains that were doing it "for a greater purpose" (lizard to help humanitie evolve and Sandman for his daughter) and I agree, an over powered supergod should have no problem beating bane when he had trouble beating up a woman

1. The Joker (Ledger) (still to this day I have never went to see a movie and been so intrigued by a character) every time Heath wasn't on screen you waited for him to be, everyone in the entire cinema had the same reaction, literally when ledger came in screen everyone was silent, no popcorn rustling, no checking their phones. just absolute silence people had no clue what he would do next so they sat and they watched in awe as heath stole their attention for the entire movie, I went to see TDK three times in the cinema and have watched it countless times since and I still believe that noone will ever equal what heath brought to the character, but it will be excellent to see them try, I say this as a batman fan and an all round film fan. in my personal opinion there is no way the joker should be played in anyway similar to heaths, in order to keep the freshness and keep it interesting, give us crazy comic psychopath joker from the arkham series and have him played by Jason Flemyng (x men first class, kick ass, league of extraordinary gentleman) and have him up against a Jon hamm batman, that will be an epic of which could rival such a Cbm as the dark knight.

2. Loki (Hiddleston is a great dramatic actor and his scene with Hopkins in Thot was excellent)
that dramatic outburst screaming 'TELL ME!!!!' peaked my interest more than any other scene in the film (I really enjoyed it, but that scene really took the cake for me) and the fact that hiddleston essentially is Loki only adds to my love for the character!

3. Harvey Dent (eckhart) along with most people I prefer the villain to the obvious hero, but the fact he was such a good man who was twisted and corrupted made it even more heartbreaking when he met his end at batmans hands, I really feel for eckhart as heaths tragic passing totally snubbed him from the praise he deserved.

4. Erik Lensherr (fassbender) I'm a huge fassbender fan and had loved most of the things he's been in, I went to see FC with little hope after going to see TLS & origins, but the mixture of vaughn's direction and fassbenders sheer presence on screen I was begging for more it the film than there was and ignored my original grievances that it wasnt the original first class line-up from the comics.

5. The Joker (Jack Nicholson) it's criminal to have jack so far down in this list but I feel in terms of great acting he is a top contender and you can tell that he loved playing every second of the over the top, crazy clown prince of crime but I just feel in terms of raw emotion the actors above managed to snatch it from him.
6.

@ VIRILEMAN, i liked TDKR in the context of the trilogy nolan had set up but it bugged me deep down because i always figured that nolans trilogy would be about batmans early years leaving the door open for sequels introducing dick grayson etc...so i like the movie and i didn't, now to address some of your concerns;

the men in the prison were instructed to nurse wayne back to health, part of banes plan to "poison the soul with hope" the man even says so when he asks wayne how much hed offer for them to just finish him off right after bane leaves.

In Batman Begins, bruce left and travelled the world without his money or any id at all so its no stretch to think that he could do that in TDKR to return to gotham. as far as gettin back into an occupied gotham, thats well within the realm of his abilities due to the LOS training.

As far as him trusting catwoman even after all she did; she didnt really betray him, he asked to be taken to bane, it was his hubris that defeated him not her double cross, anyways this is just a nitpick, not really bad storytelling at all dude...same with the kid that thinks of batman as a hero....its clear that some ppl still thought of batman as a hero, the kid, gordon obviously, blake, the other cop during the chase so hes still revered by some of gothams ppl who just dont buy the story, akin to alot of ppl not believing the official story for 9/11.

As far as the bomb goes, the time it took the doctor to change the energy device into a nuke wasnt specified, more nitpicking from a hater, some things dont have to be explained scene by scene, same with the gas bat signal, same with the timeline between batman escaping the prison and getting to gotham where just as wayne leaves the prison, fox states that they have 23 days before the bomb goes off, plenty of time for all the nitpicks you have to be dealt with.

And Batman was limping towards the Batpod at the end of the Dark Knight, i do agree that his knee being fixed by the time he leaves the pit is a plot hole though.

Banes voice is awesome BTW....
